Hi everyone ive just bought 2 Leupold scopes one earlier model VX1 and the other its newer model VX Freedom both are identical 2-7x33 and do not have a Parallax knob on the side or and AO(adjustable objective). In the past ive and Tascos and Simmons etc with the same setup as these and ive simply unscrewed the ring on the front of the objective bell and used my nifty little tool with 2 flat bladed screwdrivers to adjust for close range shooting but on these Leupolds it seems that they have been glued or sealed to prevent fiddling as Leupold have set the parallax to 50yds .Ive tried heat but cannot get the ring undone but on another rifle I own I have the VX Freedom 3-9x40 and its loose and adjustment is not a problem might have to sell if I can't adjust both of them and they are really nice scopes .I have a 6 jaw lathe chuck that I used to try and grip it with a large amount of tape to prevent scratching it but it won't undo please only reply if you've encountered the same on Leupold scopes as ive not encountered this before and its only my opinion with the glue
regards Rob

A little bit of warmth and a pair of boa strap wrenches is how I’ve addressed the Lupey reparallax task. The lathe jaws might work but at the risk of damage.
I’ve done a earlier vx1 and a freedom model, I dint think there was much if any threadlocker

Hi Plinky D

ive just ordered a Baby Boa off Ebay ive got a larger one that ive never had the need to use but the strap is too wide .Ive tried heat today fro a heat gun didn't want to go mad and melt something gonna have to wait till the baby boa comes back id assume they have tooling at the assembly point to hold and tighten pity you weren't closer to me .And yes I was aware concerned about damaging with the lathe jaws as I would undoubtably get it undone but ruin it in the process

thanks rob

I have never encountered threadlock on a Leupold, but from the factory the locking rings are properly tight.

My preferred method to defeat them is setting the scope in an old one piece mount of appropriate ring size, clamp the mount in a vice to hold it firmly, then attack the ring with a boa tool. This way you can apply both hands onto the tool to loosen the ring without worrying about holding the scope.

Since doing it this way none of them have beaten me.

Dueling boa wrenches generally put Leupold's front bezel ring into submission, quite easily...as @rockdrill has stated, not encountered thread lock compound on them either. A dandy little tool I fabbed up from a piece of 1/8"x1-1/2" aluminum flat stock ( adjust stock dimensions to suit) works well for unscrewing the lens carrier rings, as required.

Hi guys thanks for your replies it was just a thought of mine they might of used thread lock or similar to prevent the end user tampering with its settings from the factory.Nice little tool I bought an adjustable one made by the Chinese on Ebay haven't got a photo does the job baby boa on its way and the idea of putting a mount on is a good idea I will be using .Love these little scopes ideal for the little rifles I bought them for HW30/Webley Stingray. The Stingray has tested me since I bought it loved its looks but the cocking cycle was awful now its nice after a lot of home mods inc buttons, piston sleeve inc boring the inside of the piston to make room, original spring shortened to allow new top hat reused original spring guide really like it now .

Just for reference, in case it wasn't a typo, VX I scopes are 150 yard set for parallax...
Good luck & hope all goes smooth for ya 👍🙂

Hi it didn't come with a box and they are discontinued models but that would explain it when I,m trying to shoot at 25yds thanks

It didn't occur to me to look online at the manual someone else has contacted Leupold this is their reply in the photo.Would you adjust anyway its evident they don't want you to do it for whatever reason? Please note I have both scopes VX1 and VX Freedom.

How's the image quality at the ranges you will generally use the Freedom model & at what mag.? Is your Freedom model, a rimfire specific type ( 60 yard parallax) ? A Centerfire specific Freedom will likely be 150 yds. also. If a " Rimfire", you may be O.K., due to smaller objective , as far a close focus. Have a peek online at " Parallax Error Calculator"- Leland West website- this will get you maximum error possible, using your scope's parameters of size/design & distances used. The "maximum error" would be if one was looking from the extreme edge of the ocular lense. Do you have 60 yds. at your range/ perm with which to test reticle movement across a target, doing the " head bob" test , if the Freedom is unmarked as " rimfire" ? I'd personally not have a problem adjusting a scope to suit needs though.

Hi the image is fuzzy at the 15-25m distance regardless of mag , and as far as im aware its the Rimfire model .Parallax isn't the problem its the image clarity id be adjusting for .

Rob,
Like I said I adjusted my VX Freedom 4-12x40 to give a parallax of 30 yards. I use the head Bob method as @chouchin66 mentions above. The fact the lupy guy said it’s non adjustable I think is referring to a lack of AO (EFR in Lupy speak) or SF.

To set mine to 30 I remove the objective outer ring ( boa wrench etc) and the adjust accordingly using a 6” steel rule which fits in the slotted lens carrier nicely. I use head bob to check the reticle stays “stationary” against a known point at a set distance as I move my head around the occular lens.

Again as Chris said, if you using low mag the “set” parallax is much more forgiving so any parallax adjustments should be carried out on the highest mag setting and it gets better as the mag reduces. The parallax and image clarity are not exactly the same but there is a very happy balance to achieve between them by resetting the factory position of the objective lens.

Hi Dave

I will do the adjustment as soon as I get the Boa back .And yes they do the EFR version with the AO up front which is probably a better idea for me to buy TBH .I have the VX Freedom 3-9x40 bought second hand someone has been in there before and adjusted it so the ring was already loose allowing me to adjust to my preference.

thanks Rob

Ive got a few lupeys the 3-9x33 VX Freedom EFR is a doddle to use and gin clear. The mil dot ret is hard to come by on these so I settled for a fine duplex and on a fast shooting .177 rifle it’s brilliant from 15 to 55 yards after that its a bit more guess work for holdover but I’m really mostly plinking or paper.
