At the moment I have a hover with plastic blades, it vacuum up the cut grass but it's getting on now and I find it's getting like a roller to push and a lot of dried grass builds up underneath which I have to dig out. It's not a big lawn and the grass must be about two foot high, I've been thinking of getting one of them electric front blade ones, don't want to pay a lot for one, in fact about around £100 will do. Any ideas.

I guess that you're talking about a cylinder mower? I have no experience of them, but I have a smallish lawn and went for a cheap cordless (battery) mower. It's qualcast, but it's a generic rebranded mower. Lasted around 5 years so far with only one issue due to a loose cable a couple of years ago. It's so much quicker and easier than a cable mower, takes me around 30 minutes to mow my lawn rather than an hour (half of that was running out the cable, moving it around the lawn then reeling it back in again).
Nothing 'cheap' is going to plough through 2 foot high grass though, you're better off hitting it with a strimmer first.

I wouldn’t bother with a cylinder mower unless you are committed and want to cut the lawn several times a week mate, Bosch simple plug in job for around £80 I was impressed with. Nice and light, plenty of power and the cutting heights were easily changed by a lever pushing the wheels up or down. If you get a brand new one look at spraying the mower deck internals with something like a ceramic non stick coating, will help keep it clean 👍🏻

But it was a hover rotter type, I wanted to try the cylinder type front cutter. It did look to big for my small lawn. Like I said the old hover use to get a lot of dried cuttings underneath which I had to dig out
Did a search on the cordless qualcast, and came with one for £67,15, but it was a roter type. I wanted to try the front cylinder type because the old hover roter with plastic cutting blades use get a lot of dried cuttings stuck underneath.

Just had a look, price good but it looked to large for turning in my small area.

There’s a petrol mower in Aldi/Lidl for £100 at the minute.Next door bought one after his electric rotary burned out trying to cut his 10/12” high lawn.Petrol mower went through it it no time.

Just came across one that tick's the box, £101,15. Powerbase plug in 400w, with front cylinder cutter and cut grass holder. Not sure of the 400w motor but then it's only a small area to cut. Thank you all for your kind help.

Hey, you live in Wales, steal a sheep Dancing banana

If the grass is that tall I'd get a battery strimmer - I use a Bosch 36V one which seems to cope with absolutely everything.

Then just mow it as normal.

You'd need to strim down the 2 foot high grass first but why not consider just a basic push mechanical cylinder mower..? My Nan used one for over 50 years on her small lawn and it looked great. No batteries to replace or fuel to buy or cables. Nothing to ever go wrong really or clog up..

Good call you need to be a committed mower with a cylinder type.
I’ve got a cheap and cheerful one from Aldi think. I spray the underside with silicone spray.

I do have a strimer but since it run out of it's first reel I'm getting problems with it after fitting a new wind on plastic cutter, not only this, I have to rake the cut grass up and l like to take things easy these days.

That is true. If you've got a mower with a decent collector then it can do it for you but it does depend on the make.

Strimmer reels are a pain. It looks like a money saver getting a spool of plastic wire but its such a fiddle and time waster I now just buy it ready assembled and swap them over.

Cylinder ones are OK if you know there is no stones or the likes in the grass. They can wreck the blades.

I’ve got a fairly small lawn which is decreasing when we get back from holiday having some AstroTurf. I hate mowing the grass. 😢

Don’t know what strummer u use, mine you tap on floor while running and it automatically reels the correct length out.

I don't think that any lawn mower is designed to cut grass 2 feet high, and ideally it needs shortening with a strimmer before putting a mower over it.
Choosing the right mower is a proper can of worms. The size of your lawn, whether you want to collect or mulch, cordless, mains, or petrol, whether you want a striped lawn or not, and many other factors affect whether you end up with something that will make the job easier or not.
Some are designed to just take an inch or so off the grass but that means mowing every few days, and they struggle with the first cut after winter. Others will cope well with longer grass but need to be more powerful to do that so are more expensive.
And like anything else, you get what you pay for. Some things are designed to look like garden tools and take your money but you'll curse them every time you use them. Others are designed to actually do the job while giving you minimum trouble. Guess which are the cheap ones ? ;)
