I’m thinking of trying a version of Linux called Pear OS and am looking at cheap Laptops. I don’t want anything over 14” and this seems to fit the bill. Would it be tiresome to get rid of Windows on it. I’ve not used Windows for years.

Firstly, I'd avoid giving Curries any of your money, and also give the HP a swerve - my SIL bought one a couple of months ago and it kept hanging, was very slow when it did work and eventually spat the dummy altogether. Returned for a refund and replaced with an ASUS from https://box.co.uk/
This seems to offer a lot for the money?

It should do the job nicely ... I run a 4 year old 15.6" Asus that gets very heavy use and it has been utterly reliable. My SIL's is the same and she uses it for a lot of graphics

With second hand I Google how to change the battery, if it is easy I'd get it as the battery is the main thing to fail.
