Love shooting my hw97 just wish the twang wasn’t so bad I’ve put well over 2000 pellets through it so should of bedded in by now so just ordered the maxi kit to see if it can quiet it down a little and maybe a bit with the shot cycle I will be happy . How likely is it that I will need to chop the spring as that’s the only thing worrying me

Is the worry about cutting the spring or not having a chrony.
Access to chrony is highly recommended for anyone working on a springer.
Cutting and closing a coil is a simple operation.

Got the chrony just the trimming of spring

I’ve got a HW97KT which I fitted a kit to a little over a week ago. Now shoots at a stable 10.5fpe.

I didn’t add any power washers and you won’t need to either. Just take the task slowly and keep your parts organised. That trigger block is hard to remove but it will move if you give it a few good whacks.

Obviously chrono it when you’re back together.

10.5 and faster lock time softer shooting for me too with tbt kit...I also popped a sleeve in with it

After about 10 years I put a tbt maxi Pro kit in mine along with a short stroke extension and I believe a sleeve made from a Carling can.
Fired 5 shots through it and it was sweet as honey and quiet. Then I put it over my chrone and was expecting mid 10 to mid 11ftlbs.
Just shy of 15ftlbs 😲 with no power washers, never has a gun been disassembled so quick 😆.
I didn't want to change the originally spring so I collapsed the spring.
Now has about 10mm of preloaded and still shoots sweet but at low 11ftlbs.
On stripping i did find a washer id missed the first time so removing that helped.
On the whole id recommend a tbt kit and a chrono for all springer shooters.
My ntm tx200 will be getting one at some point.

You kept the factory spring? I’ve got the factory spring in the box but I fitted the replacement one. I figured the spring in the kit was designed for a power level appropriate to the market.

Now to figure out what to do with a slightly used 97 and 45 factory spring. I offered them at my club for anyone who’s got a project gun.

It’s definitely reignited my interest in springers. Just got to stop me from looking at a TX200 Ultimate Springer too closely now.

I changed the spring that came with the kit.
