Now I’m not the best at this kind of thing so I did it with a friend who knows a lot more than I will ever forget about firearms but neither of us know much about air rifles.

Following the videos on YouTube that Nick helpfully uploaded and accidentally hammering the pins the wrong way at first only to have a fun time getting them out the right way.

Did we have all the tools needed? No. Did we improvise a solution to any problems we faced? Of course we did. Did it work? No one died at least.

Getting the rifle apart was hard. I didn’t have the suggested wheatabix in the video but I had a nice bowl of coco pops and they seem to have helped.

I didn’t like shooting my hw97kt due to the sheer noise and it trying to jump out of my hands when I fired it. Backyard friendly? Maybe if you have no neighbours for 20 miles. Thing kicked like a mule and sounded like I was hammering a wall before I started.

That synthetic stock is an echo chamber you cannot get used to.

So after a few attempts to get it apart we managed it. All done in a lunch hour. Taken into the garden for a quick test and both my friend and I thought we had done it wrong. Had to get a box to shoot to check the pellet was being expelled from the muzzle as the change in the rifle was profound.

Only issue I have is I’ve washed my hands about 20 times and I can still smell bum slide on them.

Next job is getting his kit for the HW45 and fitting this Aussie Seal thing someone told me I needed to have.

I might be back on springers. PCP can go back in the cupboard.

!

You might want to try it in a wooden stock - basic Beech 77 or 97 will do.

Might just be my personal preference but they always feel better to me.

Well done for getting it sorted!

I put the same kit in my 97 work a treat..fyi...I now put bum slide on with a small paint brush !!!

I'm sure I've seen people suggesting stuffing their synthetic stock with sponges to stop them being a sound box.
I’m going to fit an adjustable buttpad to it once I fix my calipers and figure out which one from Rowan to put on it. I’ll pack it then. I’ve heard loads use expanding foam and I’ve got loads of that.

Makes a massive difference to the HW97KT, I also added to the "Moderator" some extra "felt" Baffle stuff to make it actually work, a 40mm butt extension to suit my long arm!. Shoots like a dream, quieter, better grouping and depending on pellet weight upto 11.6fps.

I’ve made some 3d printed baffles to the moderator. When I opened it up I was so confused by a spring and some felt.

What did you use to do the extension? I’m going to fit an adjustable buttpad which will add some spacing. Having to get right down to use my shoulder pocket and my eye strains my aging neck.

I’ve just fitted the .7” buttpad on another rifle with a CTR stock and I like it much better now.

Good old ebay did the trick

If I had the courage to convert my 97kt and my TX200 HC I would, but really scared of damaging them.

I've used loft insulation before now. Pack it in tightly though.

Set up a space you can hammer and have towels and all your tools ready. I only had a 3.5mm punch and used an old rubber coated spanner for purchase on the trigger block and hammered it about 5 times and it came loose.

Watch the videos and go slowly. It’s surprisingly easy to do the job. The videos are a bit long as @Tinbum talks about his shoulder and explains the kits and short stroke.

Considering neither of us knew what we were doing. We got it done in about an hour. Most of that was spent getting the trigger block to come loose.

Once it is apart it’s a ten minute job putting the kit in. Putting it back together took longer than fitting the kit.

The rifle is so much better when it’s done that I don’t even feel like buying another rifle today.

I use steel shot mixed with "Big Boy " Plastic bumper filler from toolstation , it adds weight strengthens the stock not that it needs it, but just fill the weight thing up front on the hw97 with lead screw the 7mm allen bolt cap back on you got a well balanced springer with some heft about it. Weight is your friend dulls out any stray negative vibes. Just sayin

Now is the time to test for Muzzle Velocity / Power.
When a rifle is well set up the lack of noise and recoil can be deceptive.
The 97 & 77 make power very easily.
I’m going to get hate for it but I don’t have a chronograph. I can use one at the club though.

I should buy one. The FX seems to be popular.
