My 13 year old lad is showing an interest in air rifles so I was thinking about getting him a nice little junior rifle to enjoy. I seem to be automatically leaning towards the HW30s but I was just wondering if anyone had any other suggestions for me please?

Started my grandson at 10yo with a Cometa 220, nice shooting smooth gun 9ftlb also lightweight for him and a very nice resettable safety, lifetime warranty if that’s you thing too.

HW30 still has a long trigger pull

Maybe a co2 gun like a CP2 - you can vary the style to keep him interested. Pistol/carbine/rifle…

Another vote for the 220, or if that's too big the 100 could be worth a look..

My son has a couple of 220s. Very consistent and accurate. Resettable safety is a bonus, especially for kids.

Here are his two. A Compact and a Galaxy.

Sometime ago there was a young lad on the plinking range knocking down whatever he shot at. I asked his Father what gun was he using and was told it was a Walther Terrus. he also offered it to me to try. It was factory condition but shot like a gun that had been tuned, had a decent trigger and was very accurate leaving a favourable impression on me. If I was looking for a gun to start my son with, this is what I would look for.

I've had a couple of Terrus, very underrated guns, almost forgotten about due to the popularity of the HWs.

My local rfd had a couple of old hw25 which looked to be perfect for a nipper, if you can find one that is! Small and lightweight, with according power.

My 9 year old lad is happily shooting a .22 Hw99s that he can cock and load himself and loves my 97k if I load it for him!.
I would get a full power smaller gun like a 99 or a Cometa rather than a lower power gun.
At 13 he’s not to far off adult “stuff” so I’m sure the cocking/safety aspect wouldn’t be an issue👍.

My grandaughter (10) uses either my un-scoped Original 25

or my scoped original 35

When she was younger she used my BSA Merlin which is very small.
