Jeremy Clarkson

I like him he is a buffoon but thats the part he plays on purpose for the scripted stuff he does.
As to saving tax and tax benefits i would do the same if in his position just as every one else does, why not? its all legal and above board as the tax man & government have made it.

I don't think he did countryfolk any favours when he publicly stated that the reason he bought his land was to avoid paying inheritance tax on his many millions earnt through the media and that land was a better investment than putting his cash into the bank.
I would like to see figures for how much the price of farmland has risen since it became exempt from the tax, a family with four sons can only really leave the family farm to one so the other three have to buy somewhere else if they want to continue in their traditional way of life, the price I suspect has rocketed since celebs have got into this new, Marie antoinette style farming.
Dyson is also reputedly buying as much land as he can to avoid paying the tax,
in his position would you just let the government take the lions share when you exit this life?
There will always be loopholes and i would/will use every one if it means i can save money for my family when i go. Tax has already been paid on earnings and if the law has been abided by then whats the issue?

No issue, it's just that he didn't get into farming for the way of life, he is not a good example of a farmer, that's all. He is a media person who doesn't like paying the same as the little people have to do,
Luckily he had the money, as many do, to pretend he is a farmer and the last gov agreed with him. The new lot, rightly or wrongly, don't.

This government has decided as it doesn't know the difference between a family farm and one bought by someone doing it for tax reasons they are all going to cop it in some way.

The only person Clarkson is really interested in is himself and possibly his immediate family anything else including his often controversial, provocative and sometimes outrageous comments is done purely to keep himself in the limelight/public eye nothing more nothing less. Most of the time he is little more than an amiable or irritating buffoon depending on how one regards him.
In short doses he can, to many, be entertaining but to spend a long time in his company his appeal would probably soon begin to wain.
As for the farm he bought he simply did that to avoid inheritance tax as he knew sfa about farming By his own admission he stated that back in 2021?
Whether him becoming a sort of publicity agent or champion for the farmers in view of why he bought the farm that might be a two edged sort so to speak where the farmers are concerned.
And one has to ask how much of that was done out of genuine concern for famers affected by the new rules regarding inheritance tax and how much of it was just to keep him in the public eye/media.
Had the new rules not affected him would he still be at the forefront of the protest.

I do like him and if you've not seen The Grand Tour then its worth a look. I recommend the first episode which starts literally at the moment he leaves the BBC. It's quite an introduction and sticking two fingers up at them.

The studio/tent episodes are ok but still trying to be a bit top gear although there is a really funny discussion they have about the fastest birds and also what chocolate is the worst to eat while driving.

Once they are out of the studio and doing epic drives it gets very entertaining. Some of it is down right dangerous. The Seamen episode is worth a look. No cars at all.

As for JC and farming. Buying a farm to avoid paying Inheritance Tax is fine. It's the most immoral tax there is and should be scrapped completely. You should be allowed to pass on all your possessions regardless of your wealth. He's done more for farming profile than Countryfile has ever done. His column in the Sunday Times often has some very diligent points under the bluster. He wrote one about the media obsessing about mental health all the time might be detrimental to those who actually need the help because EVERYONE else is now in the queue too.

Yes he often says and does things for effect, and acts like a buffoon. Underneath I do think he's very sensitive and intelligent. I present the Farm episode when he visited the abattoir and a TG episode when he was driving a Porsche 928 and explaining how he managed to get to his father's bed before he died. It will bring a lump to your throat.

Love him or hate him?
I'm enjoying the docu on C5+1 about his antics.
Especially the way he has kicked the British Bias Corpse arse over the years. And the cheeky two-hats have continued to make money off him since his so-called ignominious sacking.
Can you remember what it was called? I will try find it on catchup.

I do wonder if some people don't like him because he is not for "the current thing" which is, at time of this comment, driving farmers out of business.
We get it on most subjects, a few who pipe up and basically say "we should just accept it".
To make just accepting it palatable they then bring up something less significant than climate BS induced famine.
I'm serious, there seems to be a group of people who think "farming is wrong, we should just get our stuff from the supermarket".
He's not my favourite TV person but he has drawn a lot more eyes on the the travails of our food producers.
