I was out on a bike ride with my youngest this afternoon, I was checking out a couple new fields and seeing if the sheep had been moved yet.

As we approached the gate, there were kits a plenty and a few breeders about.

Alfie was asking lots of questions about shooting bunnies, hes had only a couple of sessions up the club and is showing some good form for a 9yr old.

Ive promised to allow him on live quarry when, like his brother, he can consistently put 5 in a 15mm kill at 30yds which hes fine with and understands why.

He asked if he could tag along next time I went out to see what its all about..hmmm,

Would you like to go out later i suggest and his face lit up 😁

Kitted out with ollies old el chepo leaf suit, and sporting my rangefinder, we settled down about 30 yards along the hedgeline , I pointed out the likely spots and he ranged them for me.

Plenty of bunnies showing from 55 to 95 yds out and I could feel his excitement building although he controlled it very well, then , after 20 mins, a brace popped out around 48yd and began chasing each other.

Looking to my right, I could see him statue still, rangefinder to his eye, transfixed on this pair as they gradually came closer,

At 27yds the Menace sent the good news to bunny No1 and i heard a quite "Yess" beside me.

Nothing else showed (in range) for another 20 mins so I decided to take him on a stalk.

Grabbing the primos with instructions to step in my foot steps, we slowly made our way up the field.

This is a pest control gig so when 2 kits presented around 25yds ahead they were dispatched sending them bouncing all over the place " it's just their nerves" i reassured him.. we continued to the top corner when the final young rabbit presented at 32yds and was taken without a single twitch.

Back to the car and time to clean the 2 bigger ones as Alfie is longing to make more bunniy pasties.

Time to test his metal, I split the 1st one reached in and evacuated the guts, lungs and heart, he was fascinated and genuinely interested..

I split the 2nd bunny and handed it to him, without hesitation he was straight in, gagged a little 🤣but cracked on with it, I gave him the smaller one and together, we took the jackets off.

It was a great bonding session, he loved it and couldn't wait to tell mum ( who really doesn't need all the info)😁

Bunnies cleaned off and into the slow cooker, so we can pick off the meat in the morning and get some baking done,

Direct exposure was either gonna make a hunter out of him or put him right off, im happy to say, there is huntingbin his blood.

Thanks for reading.

Thanks so much chaps, out of the 2, unlike our Oliver who was/is an A class student and all round great kid.. young Alfie has been known affectionately as F.ker, but thankfully hes well on the way to turning things around😇
Ive been having some great times with him recently and looking forward to where this journey ends..

He's looking forward to putting my custom shorty s200 ratworked carbine to good use, an absolute joy to shoot and served Olly very well on bunny patrol and the HFT circuits

Right on, Mike ! 👍👏👏🐰🐰

Thanks Chris, ive not excuse not to try and get back into it again, although I am extremely busy with work, re training and working out how to get fitter and thinner without running 🏃‍♂️ 👍
Legally ?🤣🤣🤣
Seriously though, my pal Billy swears by those new fangled apple cider vinegar laced canned/ bottled drinks for dropping #s.... Sumpin' about " gut health" & such.

Brilliant mate 👍 He will remember that for the rest of his life. I am glad you are posting again by the way.

Atb Micah.
Its nice to be back mate, both posting and catching up with the AGF crowd.

I forgot how much I loved my shooting, ivr just been so busy sorting out life, I havnt made time for it..

Still working weird shifts so not too many opportunities to get Alfie up the club practicing but will.make more time as I can.

Hopefully a career change will afford me more time moving forward.😁

Fantastic reading and what a result for you both.
I was the same age, he’ll soon be 41 like me, someone will ask him at some point when he started or how he was introduced and he’ll go right back to that memory you just made with him as Micah said. Hope you guys make many, many more 😊

Thank you for your kind words gents, we've had another busy day, biking and swimming, then we came home, picked the meat off the bones and made rabbit pies with white wine and honey mustard sauce.

Blooming marvellous, and we still have another to look forward to 😁

Fantastic stuff @Wilco & well done Alfie for getting in there.
Tried all this with my 3 lads when they were young uns but unfortunately none of them took to it, or fishing when i tried that with them.
Rick😜
That's a pity mate, Alfie has also expressed an interest in fishing, too, ive still got all.my gear but havnt been in years, perhaps ill dig it out and dust it off this year 😉
