We are infested with tiger mosquitoes now in this area (unlike the ordinary ones that come out in the evening, they pester you all day

) so my shooting post is fumigated with the anti mosquito spirals everybody knows. Some success but not total, so I keep one of those electric racquets which kills quite a few, but then you can't concentrate so much on your shooting, can you?!

Long sleeves and trousers are compulsory for a quiet moment.
Anyway...
I read somewhere that mosquitoes

are repelled by the
smell of coconut! I can't vouch for other bugs. So yesterday I sprayed some cheepish coconut scent on my arms and risked it in short sleeves, I kid you not, and had to admit I was not pestered or stung for the couple of hours my session lasted...

In the same place, I had read that the

are attracted by
flowery

and
sweet smells, so it's best to avoid those nice sweet smelling soaps when in

season. "
Beer sweat" is reputedly sweet to them also,... so keep your cool beers for when you're inside!
If you have a sweet tooth, drink beer not only are you more likely to sweat more than others but also attract the bu***rs. Believe me I know.
Rightly or wrongly i was under the impression that midges were attracted by you expelling Co2 . Could someone clarify this for me please one way or another
The chemicals that we exude and attract mosquito-like insects are indeed
CO2 (breathing) and
lactic acid (a byproduct of your muscles functioning --> sweat), that's how the insects find us, knowing "food" is in the vicinity.

Those are the main substances used in mosquito traps to lure them in.
Hope this helps!
