I've posted a thread about the death of a man who hunted, shot and displayed the heads of endangered species he paid to hunt. Moderators felt strongly enough to delete it and I have to stand by my principles.

I have very strong convictions regarding the welfare of endangered species such as lions, rhinos and elephants. Their slaughter for entertainment is absolutely shocking. Stuffing their heads and hanging them on his Californian walls for what reason!!!!

What has become of the human race?

I will not be responding to any replies to this thread.

Enough is enough.....

BTW, my principles are strong.

(Au revoir Mon Ami).

I have to agree, big game and trophy hunting is in my opinion a revolting activity, and there’s nothing better to read than one of these types have met an early end as a consequence of the pursuit of their cruel pastime. Same goes for matadors that get gored, and fox hunters that come a cropper - it’s great news.

But, there must have been something in your post that ticked a box that breached the forum rules. I’d take that for what it is, it’s not a reason to leave the forum for.

Moderators considered the post and chose to delete it as it's not a good look for members to be cheering and celebrating the death of ANYONE, regardless of their actions...legal or illegal.

That has always been the case.

Deleting the post is not an endorsement of trophy hunting.

Steady on, please.
You are one of the more interesting members of AGF - even when we disagree!

I do not know what your post said - my guess is that the Mods will be very aware of Public Perceptions and that is fair enough, that is part of their remit.

You are not alone in losing no sleep over someone who hunts lions, rhinos and elephants for trophies or any similar persecution of wild and beautiful animals simply for fun.
(Removing "Tuskers" has been show to be linked to bizarre behaviour in young male elephants, for example - so there can be awful negative consequences.)
However, for now at least, such practices are legal and can even be financially beneficial for the local communities.

Photo Safaris and other tourist attractions can often be even better financially and that makes keeping these animals alive - although sensibly managed - and protected from poachers etc.

AGF needs to keep some sort of balance on many issues in the online, public world - whether you or I agree with the "Party Line" is of no relevance.

Please just a take a few days and cool off, Jay.

Nobody is questioning the strength or sincerity of your principles

I have always been lead to believe that a certain amount of culling is necessary to maintain a healthy population of some creatures. If they can get someone to pay for being part of the cull, then that means money going into the conservation work, which might mean that more animals can be saved the next time. If they are going to allow someone to take part in the cull, what's the harm in them making a trophy of the animal?

Some animals need culling or they will starve due to over population and not enough food . I would rather see them shot than starve . Some are also humanely dispatched like the Callum the Stag.

In June 2024, a famous red deer known as Callum the Stag was humanely put down by the National Trust for Scotland due to severe health issues.
Key Details of the Incident:

Reason for Culling: Callum suffered from poor health and had lost most of his teeth, leaving him unable to forage or survive the upcoming winter.
Location: The stag was a "local legend" often seen by tourists at the Beinn Eighe car park in Torridon, Highlands.
Human Impact: Experts believe the stag's condition was worsened by tourists feeding him inappropriate food (such as sweets and bread), which contributed to his dental decay and reliance on humans.
Method: The National Trust for Scotland stated that "humanely putting him down" was the kindest option to prevent further suffering.

Culling to control animal populations or for humane reasons makes a lot of sense.
Nobody is disputing that AFAIK.

Something like this
is another matter - i.m.h.o.

2021, admittedly but Quote
"British trophy hunters are being offered the chance to shoot farmed tigers in sickening "canned hunts" for £34,000, the Mirror can reveal.....
The endangered species is protected in 183 countries – but in South Africa it is legal to hunt tigers bred in captivity."

We do not know what "hunting" this deceased person was doing but this article helps to show why some Hunting is
abhorrent to many people - not least me and Jay.

As @Joey wrote
" it's not a good look for members to be cheering and celebrating the death of ANYONE, regardless of their actions...legal or illegal.
That has always been the case.

Which is an eminently sensible attitude!

Not another flounce.🙄🙄😂

Tigers in South Africa?

Tigers in South Africa?

The article says that they are bred specifically to be hunted and are not legally protected in South Africa.

I even quoted it in my earlier post.
"the chance to shoot farmed tigers in sickening "canned hunts" for £34,000"

FARMED!!!!

Nothing to do with their natural habitat etc.

Just greed creating and exploiting an opportunity to make money regadless of ethics or any human decency, in my opinion.

It will be interesting if some escape.
