DEER POACHING..
Kirkby Underwood and the surrounding area..
Incident 51 7/5/26 is a report of two Fallow doe that had been shot on open fields opposite Callans Wood and left.
The young doe was shot in the neck and left alive but unable to move for several hours.
Her suffering was ended by a deer stalker.
The other a heavily pregnant Fallow had been shot in the neck.
(We know that this species is out of season).

The attending officer, has removed two bullets and it is believed that they are from a .22 Rimfire rifle.
(We know that this is not a legal deer caliber).

This has been a reoccurring problem over the last few years. Concerns are obvious..
Someone shooting deer illegally on land they have no permission to be upon and possibly with an unlicenced firearm and in doing so they are risking the lives of others whilst failing to humanely dispatch deer thus causing unnecessary suffering to those deer.

We are appealing for anyone who may be out in the hours of darkness in the local area to report any vehicles that they see acting suspiciously.. (VRM preferably) inform the Force Control room via 101 or online that PC 418 Green is appealing for sightings.

Yes it looks like that to me also --they should be able to tell from the rifling marks i think a rimfire will be much deeper

trouble here is shot in daylight hours retrieved at dusk probably butchered in the field and already sold on this is the sad side of shooting readily offered whole butchered animals in pubs for a poltry 100 quid but unfortunatly you will not stop it its been going on for years

I know some poachers use .22lr as its pretty silent compared to others.

Sickening, and then not even put out of their suffering. And if caught magistrates half the time just give them a slap on the wrist, it’s time these people got a proper deterrent sentence.

We have a family of poachers up my way and they are caught all the time and a fine at most . One of the family was fined that morning for Hare Coursing and straight back out that night doing it again and posted it about it on Facebook .

We had a notorious poacher lose his firearms after he was nailed by DNA evidence . I dare say that wont stop him as being caught and jailed twice and it never stopped him. He had been caught 6 times in total.

Some lads got caught up my way poaching deer with an airgun modified to use primers, not one of them got jail time despite being convicted of firearms offences and trespassing etc. Absolute scumbags

Some shooters also don't see a problem with it they say if its only one in a while then whats the problem

The quad bike chavalry. They will no doubt arrive and disappear on stolen bikes of the 2 and four wheeled variety. Trespassing causing damage and suffering to animals. Everything they use will be stolen and un-licensed. Once they nick enough of those e-bikes you won't even hear them either.
