I'd like a pistol (not CO2 powered).

I can get locally a choice of these break barrel pistols...all are .177
My intended use is 'not too serious' target shooting, as a group of us in the indoor BR club would like to add a pistol to our shooting sport. Just a friendly competition between us. Our range is not certified for CO2 weapons.
Hatsan Model 25
BSA 240 Magnum
Cometa Indian
Air Match Model 600
Weihrauch HW70 Air Pistol
Gamo Model PR-15
Walther LP53
Webley Premier
Webley Senior
The Walther and the Weihrauch interest me as they are built for this sport (but a bit spendy to buy).
The 2 Webley models appeal because just 'cos'! The Premier appeals more than the Senior though.
I have no idea about pistols. What's good, what's not. So I need some advice please.
My heart (and wallet) say the Webley Premier (even though the grips don't really suit 'proper' target shooting).
The Gamo...maybe...as it's not too dear either.
If you were a poor, struggling, hard-up pensioner who wants to have a reasonable play at target shooting which would you choose?

See if you can source a Beeman P17 SSP pistol - cheap as chips over here and punch far above their weight

I have a HW40 i don’t use anymore since i got back into air rifles if you are interested
Thanks...but I do live in New Zealand which may make delivery a tad harder than just a normal postage job. However, I will look into this further. I will PM you now re price, etc and then do some planning.

You listed the BSA 240 Magnum. I think mine is great, I've not had it long, but can recommend it. They only had about a 6 year production so are getting a bit hard to find. However spares are still available for them.
I'll be in New Zealand in two weeks time, can you recommend any arms fairs north of Auckland?

Same choice as @mickson .
Price point in increasing order :
P17
HW40 (nicest trigger)
Gamo Compact (nicest grip)

If you do have the means explore the Weihrauch more expensive range (spring or SSP)

i keep seeing good things about these, they look good to aha im not keen on the mostly plastic guns nowadays
The materials help keep the weight down. I agree its longevity maybe be compromised but at that price point would be happy to replace when can no longer service its innards.

I've asked on the NZ Hunting & Shooting forum for you re the arms fairs. Will let you know of any replies.

My newly acquired vintage ie 50 odd year old hw70 is lovely to shoot super light to cock little recoil and very accurate running at 2-3ftlbs ...and it looks lovely. Ps you won't hit anything with a bsa 240 in my experience

I had a HW70 and loved it 👍

As above it cocks really easily and the trigger was really nice.

My only issue was my eyes aren't up to open sights anymore with bifocals and needed a red dot.

I didn't realize they did the Black Arrow version which has a rail, but it's good to know you need that model if you needed a scope/red dot.

My BSA 240 is good for cans at 10 yards, but you can forget any target groupings. Seating each pellet helps a little.
