HW90 gas ram. It's an itch I'm wanting to scratch. Already have high end pcps and a tuned springer.

Going to go down the second hand route. What do I need to look for and what price should I look at paying g for a good one in .177 preferably with the screw cut barrel.

I've got most other bits. Is a special pump required to 'top up' the ram pressure if required?

Im pretty sure there a send away job, pretty much like the nitrogen boot struts on a car tailgate/ boot. So take a chronograph.
Car boot struts do loose nitrogen over time.
Iv owned one, nice and heavy, really liked the safety catch ability to turn on/off like Hw100

There is a screw on the back of the cylinder that is removed, then an adapter is screwed in to the valve position and a pump like a pcp pump can be used to add pressure to the gas ram. My own HW90k is from 1999 and shoots around 10.8ft lbs.

Best fittings who I liked to above do a pump and other parts .

Don't not attempt to use a dive tank to pump it up as it could go wrong very easily.

What sort of price should I be looking at for a good second hand one?
Should get a very good used one from £300,an as new boxed around £425-£450.Personally I prefer the longer barrel version with open sights. When buying look closely at the screws to be sure as you can that it hasn’t been tampered with. Some have been pumped up beyond their intended pressure which can damage the piston seal.Later ones have a different modern stock shape that I’m not too keen on.

You can buy a shock pump for cycles plus some adapters /bits n bobs so no need to buy the best fittings pump. But you would need to buy their adapter.

As for buying second hand use your head not your heart.
If the stock looks a little suss ask to take the action out of it to ensure it’s not snapped .
Dont believe any “ it’s been serviced by such and such so it’s sorted “.
Easy to drop a name .
They are easy to service fortunately and parts are readily available .
Good few threads on here to peruse regarding strip down and set up .

There is one on Gunstar, i know the guy selling it, thats £275

They can lose pressure so the main thing to look for is it the cover screw on the back of the cylinder looks like it's been undone and put back loads of times.

I sold mine last year for about £450.
It was as new, hardly used, just over a year old.
Still regret it

Price wise i,d say £350 for a tidy unmolested early example.
I bought my hw90k about 25 plus years a go from new.
Yes it snapped the crosshair on the scope ,but it is still fully functional . It is bob on with any pellet producing 11.2. 11.4 ftlb. However I will be parting with is soon along with several others.Mine has never needed a refresh , it just works.

I’ve been using my mates FAC one and it’s as smooth as silk, only downside is cocking the thing…..😳….💪💪💪
