HW77 Open Sights Help

Just acquired a lovely HW77 and wanted to stay with the iron sights/peep sight/diopter set up. Have searched and read a few posts on here but can not pin down any particular make and model that people are using to good effect, Lots of makes get mentioned like Williams for example but there are about 800 different versions on the websites I find and no information as what they fit. Eyesight is not the best so just after something to help. Was considering just fibre optics to help out but imagine there are better solutions that you guys have found.

Can anyone make any recommendations please, with make model and ideally picture so I can consider options?

Any of these fit. The Weihrauch, top left, is rarest. Of the others Anschutz bottom right gives better, for me, eye relief

The rear sight will fit straight on the rifle, two reasons I have a riser, one is, personal preference, as I prefer my head more upright, but the second is it gives me the ability to set the front riser height to keep the sights in line.

I would test it for you with the original front blade but I can't find it at the moment.

I tried a couple of shots at 25 yards with a hw30 front tunnel sight, but it's still shooting high, and the rear sights run out of adjustment, so I'm guessing the standard sight would need a riser.

If you use the front sight I used, you would have to use an adapter anyway to mount it, as it's got no clamp on it
I've fitted diopters to loads of rifles that didn't come with them, there's always a lot of messing around to get the sights to line up elevation wise.
If you get stuck, DM me, I can probably sort you an adaptor out.👍

There’s always the Williams peep sight which you can use with the standard foresight, works for me with great results
 
Like you I prefer iron sights over a 'scope.
I recently recently bought a pre-owned Gamo aperture sight for my HW35K from the 'Bay. My old eyes are not good now & having a rear sight on the dovetail instead of just behind the breach has considerably improved my accuracy on targets at a range of 25 yds

The down side is that there's no magnification of course so probably unsuitable for hunting. Move the peep sight back/forward on the dovetail to suit your image of the foresight. I have found that without an arrester pin the peep will gradually move rearwards, due to the double shock of a springer, regardless of how tight you clamp the sight to the rail.

Although I admit I am selling it as I’m not shooting peep anymore since the competition ended.

Hugely effective and great fun.

HW front sight - I managed to get a Gehmann adjustable foresight and adapter to fit the globe

FWB 300 rear unit

Both on here for sale 😉

Which year of HW77 did you get? Reason I ask is, depending on the stock cheek riser may affect which rear diopter height is comfortable for you.

Yes sadly the new 77 stocks are too high for opens - stupid as why sell a rifle with them that you can’t use?!?

Classic sporter stocks are brilliant

As for the Williams peep - great units ~£45 but sadly they lack the micro adjustment - fine to fit and forget but a pain if needing to adjust

I found mine fine with the new Laminate cheek riser on standard opens but others may not. But diopters were my goal which give a bit more height than the standard open sights tbh.

You can fit the Gamo cheap dioptre to HW30S or HW50S/99S but it needs to be tapped to fit an arrestor pin. I surmise that it would fit the HW77 just as well.
Both HW30S or HW50S/99S have an interchangeable insert front sight that make it a working setup -- that's what is sold for Weihrauch as a compatible setup by SWS in Berlin.

Got one of these on my HW35K, but with only one clamp knob onto the rail it will gradually go walkies if you don't peg it.
Gave up on the 25yd range today, glaring sun meant I couldn't see the damn foresight !
Roll on the Autumn, then we can moan about the rain.

I also find using the standard opens with the new style stock no issue, you have to have your head in quite a different position to what you'd be used to with a scoped rifle, but its by no means unusable

I removed the factory front sight and installed a globe front so I could change to an diopter type ring. I also installed an old Anschutz match aperture rear sight and a Gehmann adjustable diopter in in. Finally I swapped out the stock to a Tyrolean model from Custom Stock there in the UK. Now one of my favorites.
As for the Williams sights, they do make some that are adjustable by only loosening a set screw or clamp and sliding, trial and error adjustment, and some have micrometer click adjustment and some of those are available with target adjustable knobs. Mine are all the target adjustable knob, micrometer click models. Probably not as fine of an adjustment as my old FWB or Anschutz diopter sights, but still good, especially on a more sporting type air gun.
