I was looking on YouTube the other night and came across the hw70 , has any one used or owned one , what are they like, I was looking at the one with open sights , are they garden friendly noise wise . Are they a pig to shoot, are they easy to cock , I was going to get one for my son to shoot he’s 11, cheers in advance. John

I couldn't really give you a fair assessment, as the one I have is pretty old and in need of a service really. It's not too bad to cock though, fairly good to shoot, although mine can be a little noisy but nothing chronic, but again, it needs a good service. They tend to be pretty well regarded in general, but don't seem to come up often.

Not too sure how well an 11 year old could cock it as they are short barrelled, but I'll have to try it again when I'm home to refresh my memory.

I still have the one I bought in the early 80's and have shot thousands of pellets through it with no problems up to last year. It just needs a new spring and I have not gotten around to fixing it. It is accurate and mine shot a little over 400 fps. I did not think cocking it was that bad and could easily shoot 100's of pellets in one session. Mine does not have the safety like the newer ones. I shot a friends trevox pistol recently, and it was not even close in quality as you would expect for a much cheaper pistol. I would not hesitate to buy another. Hope that helps.

Thank you for the reply , I’m very interested in one , I seen them for sale at a few places , I got a couple of days off from work soon so I think it’s gonna be a new gun day soon 👍

I've got a very early pre-safety model, and a modern version. Both great to shoot and easy to cock. The trigger isn't the best, but I shoot a lot of 45's and a 75 so I've been spoilt. I'd definitely get another one if anything happened to either of mine. Let us know how you get on!
Simon

Cheers Simon, I was also looking at the 75 , the one thing that caught my attention was in a review I read online it was said that the hw70 was the hw30 of the pistol world I’m not sure if that’s true but going by yours and follownoone views sounds like a contender 👍 cheers for replying bud 👍 I’ll let you know how I get on.

I had one, very accurate little pistols around 2-3ft/lbs. Very similar to the 30 even down the ball detent. Grip was bakerlite and felt a little top heavy from memory. I’d have another though. I have the 75 now and it’s a completely different experience, grip, weight, no recoil.

Cheers , the more I’ve been reading about these pistols the more I like the sound of them , thanks for letting me know , always a good sign if you would have another one 👍

All this talk of 70's and 75's is making me want to set up the pistol range and have a bit of a shoot off. One of the things I like about the 70 is the simplicity and fun of it. Nice recoil, good accuracy and great fun whether shooting targets or tins. It'll be a good excuse to update my pistol collection photos too. (y)

They are good ,well made easy to load and cock.I had 3 of them.I gave the one without the safety switch away.

I’m in a a pickle now , so I showed the missus the hw70 , at the same time there was an hw45 bronze star I can only afford one or the other she said why don’t you have the bronze star , so I’ve read there’s two power settings on the 45 does that make it more versatile or would it be best sticking with my original choice. 🤔 by the way nice pictures of the 70👍

If you just want a bit of garden plinking then the 70 is the way to go. The 45 is more expensive, can be difficult to shoot accurately until you master the recoil characteristics, but does have an excellent trigger. The dual power thing is a waste of time.
Pete.

Cheers for that , yeah I think I’m going to stick with my original thought and get the 70 I know I’ll regret it if choose the 45 , I’ll start putting some money away ,then If I still find myself fancying one in a few months time I’ll take the plunge then 👍 in the meantime I’ll get to develop my pistol skills with the 70 .

Very true, the dual power alters the POI upwards, making it pointless because of having to alter the zero between the two powers.
