Sounds like a bit of a lottery as to whether you get an accurate one or an inaccurate one if you buy new. They should all be accurate!
I think HW57s are fine, the lottery is who can man or woman it up not the gun itself in anyway. You could be calamity Jane with a easy to shoot HW97 but the HW57 running up close to the uk legal limit they are brutal and it seems some just can not cope with them.Sounds like a bit of a lottery as to whether you get an accurate one or an inaccurate one if you buy new. Wonder what could be causing those drastic fluctuations in accuracy?
Never used or saw any need to seat my pellets in HW57 with any pen, and i bought this HW57 to find out what multiple nay sayer posts on the HW57 were all about. I found no fault in the gun once it was clean and lubricated properly. its perfect.Me too. If I get to the bottom of it I'll do a post on the subject.
Range and country did a review on one recently too, and they also had issues, though I believe that got better by using a pen to seat the pellet.

A Question for you. Did you feel the HW57 shot cycle Typical ot Extreme in that it was Harsh horrible in nature compared to almost anything you ever shot.I've never found a need to do it either, normally just wiping across the breech face with my thumb seats them ok. But it is in the video.
Glad you like yours, my experience has been the polar opposite.

And You obviously must have seen the light barrel compared to other HWs the design with its key focus on lightweight and balance did you ever equate this light balanced build and overal mass and the nudging 12ftlbs power level as supplied in to your factoring, its frankly got no option but to be a pig to shoot well, its IMO not a Mechanical design and construction issue just the physics of the creation HW were aware of but prepared to market anyway because it actually does what they set out to achieve a super lightweight full uk power hunter sporter which i think they very much did nothing gets near it . Nothing.
Have you chronographed it at all?In my case it's not recoil alone that causing the issue, I'm pretty confident there's an underlying issue that's causing the accuracy to drop off.
I've had sub 5p groups from this rifle at several times, so I can shoot it just fine, when it's accurate. Yes, it lively, but the recoil is manageable with good technique.
Right now, it's back to randomly spitting out pellets in a 5" circle, it's not even hinting at grouping. Unfortunately, I'm not the only one that's run into a similar issue, though I've had ours for a long time now, where most would be inclined to move it on.
If you are ever up near Ayrshire, give me a shout and I'll take you down to my range and you can have a go and see for yourself if I've not resolved it by then.
