I've never been much of a "safety" fan - there are always alternatives, but their presence has never really bothered me until the other day when I used the HW 35 for a lengthy target session and got really fed up with the automatic safety engagement that Weihrauch seem to be so fond of. Things aren't helped by the way that the clamp screw of my diopter sight sits just above it,making releasing it every shot it more than a little tedious.
Is there an elegant way to end the automatic engagement?

Great idea - except for leaving visible holes 🙂

I was wondering if there's a way to just deactivate the Automatic feature - I should explain that I haven't been inside this gun yet so can't claim to understand the details of its operation,

And I believe the best way to shoot safely is to ensure that the moment you load the pellet and cock the barrel is clear of anything that could be damaged or accidentally discharged.

Often, controlling the movement of the barrel as it closes is safer than anything else.

Simply because you're aware of everything from loading to closing and firing. That's our sole purpose: to carefully observe those few seconds.

Slow down, make safety release part of the " focus & chill" regimen, relax, breathe, shoot, repeat...
You'll get a more harmonious outcome...👍

Inner peace is exactly the result I hope for. I don't rush, or swear. All I need from any given session is the memory of one or two shots where I did everything right 🙂
But it's fiendishly difficult to chill out in the face of something that is so intrusive, so unnecessary and so poorly designed - I mean, if it just worked the other way around I could release it with the thumb on my trigger hand once on target. As it is I have to let go of the gun to release it, which seems a tad self defeating...
Life is full of little challenges. Some to be finessed - and some that end up with the creak of the tool box lid... 😁

Funny, I shoot a ' 35 w/ Williams peep & have no trouble just rolling my gun to the left a taste , sliding up the wrist & clicking the safety with my trigger hand thumb... ?
Only when on target does my finger go inside guard...

Well I'm currently trying out an elderly Anschutz diopter - it's a big reach around, and that big knurled clamping bolt effectively shields the safety... Whereas I can touch the right hand end of the safety very easily.
Not ideal, but ok for a while as I try to decide if my eyesight is up to the demands of this sort of sight!

An extended safety (from the likes of @Frog etc) makes a massive difference when mounts/diopters etc get in the way. I ran into the same issue with a HW30 bell target set-up.
