How many pumps? Crosman 2100..

Gifted in the week, this gun isn't setting my heart racing but had a plink today.
First shot with one stroke of the under lever fired a 1.77 pellet into pine timber . Second time I used two strokes of said lever, pellet certainly went deeper. Continues with 3 then 4 strokes resulting in more deeper seating. So is there a certain amount of strokes before shooting?...sadly no chronograph to test properly

This should help...generally 10 should be regarded as a maximum to avoid undue strain on the mechanism and burning the valve...and to be honest after 8 it's the law of diminishing returns and the extra work provides little extra reward.
