Two questions

1/ When its time to change the oil do you only use the Hills suppled clear Silicone and red crank oil or are there alternatives.

2/ To the owners of this compressor what extra inline moister filters are been used. Ive contacted Hills direct and i understand that they may be launching their own branded inline filter for customers who want this extra security of a moister trap.

1) Why for the sake of £4 odd on something rated to 50hr/12m intervals would you not use the manufacturers specified crank oil? The silicon will last for ages. In simple terms saving £2/yr on an item that costs nearly a grand now while invalidating your warranty seems like a really questionable choice.

2) They had that opportunity when they launched the compressor and chose not to. At this stage it would need to bring something quite different to the table than what most of us have already got and is available cheaply after market. Look at the existing offering on the hand pumps, expensive to buy, expensive to maintain, and of quite questionable benefit.

Yes i agree on the 1st point , just wondered really.

Would prefer, even though probably not needed to fil my rifles, to have some sort of inline moister absorber. You seem to have tried quite a few and must be the resident expert on these. What filter would you now recommend to a new buyer. Any chance of a web shortcut to your recommended filter pleae?

When I asked the same question (1) you give me the same answer and you are absolutely right then as you are now. There's no point saving a few quid and invalidating your warranty.

As previous, Avalon and sagelout said:
For christs sake, use the recommended oils, it's cheap enough, just change it frequently, very frequently.
Think ive given the wrong impression here. Im a technician by trade and understand the importance of using correct lubrication. I used to completely refurbish automatic gearboxes and power steering units both of which need specific and different lubrication . Just wondered if most owners were using the recommended oils ,or doing something else. Ill be using the oils by Hills.

If you have a look at the compressor FAQ post, it literally has exactly why you are asking for including links 👍🏻

At present I use a BBB cable tied to a table leg so it’s vertical with desiccant/cotton in the internal tube (cotton is more about preventing potential desiccant dust migrating tbh) and a small gold filter with cotton filter on the whip end. It’s overkill and adds to the fill time noticeably if going direct to gun, but I only do that in 300bar guns (Cricket/L1). It’s not problematic as it would be in say a 12v Tuxing.

Ive read though all of this but was left a bit confused regarding what inline filter did the job
I think the answer to that is nobody knows.

I have been running the Hill for a year. Always had at least a small cotton filter or two. Alex @Avalon made me buy the medium filter and on a whim I just bought the BGB which can also be seen here

If you are just filling guns I think probably maybe the small and medium gold is enough but I don't know. Filling bottles I think based on what I have learned recently probably needs a bit more but again I don't know.

If we’re keeping score… Maverick, BBB, Hills, bulk buying pellets and I haven’t ruled out a Crown or an Ultra just yet 😂

On my omega I am currently using a 17cm filter and no evidence of moisture. I have also used a big blue but as I already had the Diablo from omega I gave big blue a home with a friend.

Having said that, why the chuff is a BGB now in my basket on alie. Thanks a bunch @Avalon and @sagalout 😁
