Good point, although we did buy this place as our last move, can’t say that the idea of running away hasn’t crossed my mind though
Another point is all the neighbours need to be doing there bit and not just you --we were getting them around our back garden --i had fen traps set all the time in box's at the entry point and was catching them daily -i reported the issues to the local council "who came out serval time and were a waist of time" they even said to me i was doing more than they could or would!! i told as many people around about the rats most said "oh we have seen none" so i blocked all the entrance points off to our garden and stopped catching them as they could no longer get in to ours --i still keep the traps set --the amount of people near that have no said "oh we have seen rats" what do i do i said remember when i told yous about them before you will have to report them yourself now --i have said it to the council that around here for the amount i have killed there must be a open source like a drain for the amount that keeps being seen --before i blocked off the entrances i reckon i killed around 70 in around 4 months

I got the Council out first time we had one in the roof space after I'd given up trying to catch it and they charged me £75 to bait it - stunk like f*ck for about 6 weeks after !its a bit of a lucky dip with some of em
Bicarb mixed with coco powder.and Plaster of Paris ...or poridge oats..Bicarb ..sugar. they all have to be kept dry..they eat either swell up and burst inside. And Plaster sets inside..and it's pet safe
I only mentioned it as a mate had a huge rat problem in his house. His cellar was soft earth with a trickle of water running through it,you can guess the rest, holes and droppings everywhere. His wife moved out as they were using the wall cavities as a motorway to the house, loft kitchen you name it they popped up everywhere. I advised him to get a private pest control not council and sell up which he did. I’d never have decking , feed birds and only live in a house with solid floors.

I haven't personally tried it myself but that's what I read before and was told when looking for pet friendly poison...it may be a wives tail I've guess the only way is to make some up and try

Where abouts in Wiltshire land are you? I could pop round with the rodent detection dog and try to pin point where they are gaining access.We moved into our little bungalow in late ‘23, the wife put out some bird feeders and we quickly realised there were no shortage of rats around. At the bottom of the garden there is a brook and the neighbour has an aviary, so not too surprising and most importantly this gave me an excuse to buy an air rifle and start an interest that I’ve become more than a bit obsessed with
Never actually got round to shooting any rats but we were no longer feeding them and saw no further activity, until recently
The field at rear, on the other side of the brook, is currently being developed into yet another housing estate, so alongside the joyous ongoing sounds of construction, the rats seems to have decided that they would rather take residence in our place. First evidence was food (bag of oats, packs of noodles) being chewed open and feasted on, everything is now in containers but the little *******s are relentless, eating cleaning products and chewing through wires and plumbing (flexi hose sink waste)
Have setup some cameras and now seeing the little buggers having no respect for the place (not to mention no chance of them paying any rent!), it’s just getting to be depressing, it seems that they are moving through the loft and in wall cavities, there are some traps down but got nothing as yet (although on the first night, rather than going for the peanut butter in the traps, they got the jar to managed to remove the lid)
I’d love to just shoot them but they don’t seem to be very interested in taking any bait at the bottom of the garden
Any advice would be much appreciated before the looming mental breakdown takes hold
