Gun Trader any good ?

Have sold a bsa mercury and a cp99 air pistol on guntrader and also bought a hw77 also a bsa airsporter with no problems at all, the deals where all done face to face cash on collection. Don't see a problem if you use a bit of common sense, if a deal seems to good to be true, treat with caution.

Guntrader does seem to have more traffic, I've sold a few guns on there and when I mentioned the airgunforum (original) they had no idea what I was talking about, theres just as many time wasters on forums unfortunately.

I've used Guntrader three times to sell rifles and all were positive experiences.

I'm honest about the condition with plenty of photos so there isn't any surprises for the buyer or anything for them to knock me on.

I would only ever sell face to face cash on collection but always had emails asking to post (scam? idk) I just reply explaining that posting the rifle isn't fully insured and would be unable to post but they're welcome to collect or have a friend pay collect and deliver it.

The first sale did have a few lowball offers via email but I just ignored them.

All of my buyers only ever e-mailed ask questions and confirm the purchase and we would chat on the phone confirm everything and to arrange collection. The last sale the chap did try to knock me £20 for no real reason other than to try his luck, I thought it was a bit cheeky seeing as he'd agreed to the price beforehand but I guess it's part of the game some people play when buying second hand. I said I'll drop a tenner to buy some pellets and he was happy.

It costs 99p to list for a month. None of mine sold within the first month but all sold within 6 weeks so it's not a quick turnaround but just check emails daily and reply to any questions.

You can edit the listing price at anytime so if it's not getting any interest you can lower the price if you want. My first two sold for the original price but I lowered the third when I renewed the add.

I'll be honest and say each time I expected to get messed around but all the sales went smoothly. Some buyers are expecting the worst too, one chap called me on the way with an ETA and said he hadn't had time to get to the cash point but would view the rifle and then get the cash! After seeing it and saying he wanted it I started to give him directions to the nearest cash point and he pulled a wedge out of his pocket saying he was just being carefull!

Maybe I've been lucky to have smooth transactions? I think face to face is the way to go to protect yourself, everything is sold as seen/tested and no trouble with damaged goods due to posting.

I have just had a look at the thread where you tried to sell it previously,
My, you really were messed around,
Tbh thats the worst sales thread ive seen on here for an age, if i was you i would have another go before giving up,
If conducted properly this is the best place to buy and sell,

I'm better at buying guns than selling them, i.e. almost never!

All my transactions via AGF have been smooth and I ended up with good value guns.

Some of my earlier purchases on Gun Trader etc?
Not so much!

So they got hacked, not there fault and hacking seems to be a thing these days,

The issue with GT was not that they were hacked (although it was remarkably lax security) but that they had peoples details unencrypted. This meant that once in, you have free access to pen documentation of peoples names, addresses, bank details, the whole lot, and this where they fell foul of the DPA. Its not difficult to encrypt, and makes it significantly harder to make a gain on the ingress.

I tend to stick with AGF, STB and mewe (known sellers only).
I'd only buy from a dealer on guntrader or gunstar, too many private sale muppets on both.

I have bougt a few guns and sold quite a few accessories on here, I am actually surprised how trusting people are, I am a parodied buyer and always on the back foot but people on here seem quite relaxed. I always try to give a high standard of service selling stuff as that is what i would expect myself fir example a message of ETA or when i have posted it, communication is the key.

Generally I would stay away from both Guntader and gun star but like Freeads of old there are decent people both buying and selling. Selling here is less impersonal and the bad element don't last long !

I have read this thread with interest
As I was one of the interested parties of the first sale pitch initially.
Being not allowed to collect from a sellers home … or not being able to try before buying …..
Is not messing someone about.

That is the reason I cancelled my interest.
But not until ….
Several pm’s passed between Mark and I …. With me trying to secure the sale.
It was Mark who actually pulled the plug … via pm …(as he told me he had a second buyer lined up) ….sadly it transpires this did not materialise for him. All this can be confirmed by the moderator who was involved.
It’s disappointing to read that Mark feels this way as I was under the impression our pms where ended in a gentlemanly manner.
Again
I wish you good luck with your sale Mark

Likewise, I have bought a few items from dealers on those sites without issue, it does mean using RFD transfer to my local but that isn't a great hardship.

I would only buy privately off an advert on there if the item is located close enough to view and collect.

Yep pal I'm sure we can't sort it out, for our various reasons listed above, I think it's best we knock it on the head, Like I've said no hard feelings pal.

This will be my last message on this if OK.

Thanks once more for your interest.

Cheers
Mark

Nay worries ….
👍🏻👍🏻

This seems clear to me ….. no messing about …
I hope that clears things up

Tbh It still looks a mess of a thread,
In the sales post the vendor clearly says he would llke a face to face sale and is clear he is willing to meet somewhere mutally convenient, not wanting to sell from home but to meet somewhere is up to the seller and absolutely acceptable,

Guntrader is my first choice for buying/selling, you need to remember that it has a massive amount of traffic so you are bound to get the odd shyster, but I've never had any problems apart from an Asian guy who has rung me several times over the years agreeing to buy at full price saying that the gun is for his son, he also tells you all about the Falcons that he flies and offers to bring pictures, but you never hear from him again.

not wanting to sell from home but to meet somewhere is up to the seller and absolutely acceptable,
And also up to the buyer to accept or reject this situation….
But (me) the buyer didn’t make the call… Mark did ….
As above …it was all done amicably …. 👍🏻

You are reading into this and finding something that isn’t there ….

Hi mate, no axe to grind here buddy, no problem with you at all but, you did however failed to mention that you wasn't up for a face to face for your own reasons, I did state that a face to face was my preferred method of sale in the advert but in the end we agreed to disagree which is fine.
I could go on about the second guy but I won't as it's pointless really, bottom line is I got messed about and I'm looking for another way of selling if possible.

Tbh you'll be exposed to far more knobheads using the generic sites (GT, GS) than you will on here.

While you might get the odd muppet / timewaster, IME AGF has consistently been one of the best platforms for buying and selling that I've encountered :)
