Government alerts

I had a similar thing happen to me very recently while I was in New Zealand.
I believe every mobile phone on the North Island ( not sure about the South Island) received a text warning of the imminent risk to life due to the approaching Cyclone Gabrielle.
I was in Auckland at the time and couldn’t understand how I received it not being a resident, it was a bit scary listening to the high pitch noise and watching everyone in close proximity all looking at their phones viewing this message.
No doubt, it helped save many lives around the coastal areas that got absolutely battered.

Agree, Some people want to be awkward for the sake of being awkward. The same people will then be the first to complain if something did happen that they were never told 📳
Air Raid sirens were an excellent idea in the past and actually saved many lives, but we're not at war as far as I'm aware so what other warning could I possibly need to know. I'm perfectly capable of looking out of my window to check the weather conditions and decide if I'm going out or not, or whether I need to blow the cobwebs off the canoe.
I'll take my chances without such intrusions into my personal life and it's nothing to do with being awkward, it's personal choice. (y)

I don't like to be an alarmist but we are at war with Russia and have been since the 2014 coup d'e tat in the Maidan urkraine started by the west. Like it or lump it.

I quite like the idea of specific music for different warnings:
Two tribes-impending russian attack
Ymca- pride's nearby
Imperial march- neighbourhood watch is about.
It's raining men-Flood warning
Jaws theme- really serious flood warning
Lawrence of Arabia theme- drought warning
Laurel and hardy theme-polititians nearby, elections imminent
It's the end of the world a we know it- green politicians nearby
What do you think?

Im assuming it will the various networks knowing who is / has been connected to a cell over the last 'x' duration and doing a global message to all those phones, customer of theirs or not :)

Did hear something about this 23rd April I think , will it just stop on its own or do we need to stop it.

Look at all the permissions the app has that is what is scary and you can't uninstall it, it's my phone and should be able to if I so chose but not an option

as a kid i only read comics tbh so couldn't say if he wrote books but his cowboy films with Babera Stanwyck were great on a sat afternoon at my granddads

I know what you mean i think i fancied Barbera Stanwyck good times. I think i had to watch it at my neighbours didnt have a telly. I used to chop fire wood for him and he would let me.
