Evening all, I have a .22 impact coming in the sniper version, I want to try a couple of different weights , and a couple of brands, but I see there are 5.51 and 5.53 , does anyone know please which is the favoured size rather than me having to buy each wright in each size to see what works?.
Thanks for looking.

I can really recommend these guys, they do an FX specific slug (I use them in my .25 Panthera)

I’m sure they have published research on why they have an FX specific one, I remember reading it somewhere I just don’t recall where

.218 (5.53) work best in my .22 FAC M4 sniper, I’ve never found it slug fussy tbh, I’ve used H&N 34, 36, 38 & 40 gr all with good results, I’ve just started testing ZAN 33gr this week and I’ve found the groups have become even tighter than before, I’d probably investigate the ZANs first now having tested all of these but all the ones I’ve mentioned are good 👍

Will the sniper version come with the slug liner or the new stx superior liner , as it might not like slugs ,

FX rifles out of the factory all come with the standard liner you’ll need to purchase the STX heavy liner for slugs, you’ll also need to install the slug power kit & I would recommend the carbon sleeve too as it stiffens the barrel up.

Without the slug power kit installed and Heavy STX liner you’ll struggle to shoot the heavier slugs at the required speed and required accuracy.

I have found 217 ZAN 33 gr are far better than 218 , what are you using?

Extremely helpful replies there chaps! Really appreciate your help. I was not aware that I would need to get all the add ons still when buying the fac version.

You don’t need too . Buy it first and shoot it
All I’ve done to my impact is added heavy hammer weight and superior heavy liner but that a mk2 impact

I have a m3 .25 fac the only slugs it will shoot are the fx hybrids. Standard superior liner 600 mm I tried zan and h&n which clogged up my barrel after 5 shots!

My Panthera 700 came with the 1:18 slug liner from the factory 🤷‍♂️

Yeah like @Fx shooter has mentioned buy it first and just try it, with my M4 for heavy slugs I did eventually have to install the heavier hammer weight, slug probe & lighter valve spring as part of the slug power kit to get the desired fps for the heavy slugs, obviously the heavier the slug is, the more power is required to accelerate them down your barrel, the Heavy liner has a 1:14 twist rate from memory (don’t quote me) it just improves the accuracy, there’s a load of FX you tube videos showing them testing all different twist rates until they settled on the heavy liners twist rate showing the best results. Any upgrades are of course optional it just depends what you want to do with your rifle.

For lighter slugs you probably don’t need any upgrades.

Just a thought why do you want heavy slugs surely it will make the trajectory very loopy?
