The last three Crowns I've serviced have been missing their valve seat, I assume this is because whoever serviced it last has lost it and not bothered to replace it OR it's hit and miss in the factory.

It was missing on the one I serviced this morning (an early MKII, I thought maybe the didn't fit them then) so I fitted a new one from my ever dwindling stock (I use a bit of molycote to hold it in place whilst reassembling). When I opened the plenum up to pack it the missing spring guide from the EV was in there. I don't think it can come off in use so I can only assume it fell of during assembly at some time in the past.

That piece floating around in the valve chamber could definitely cause some random issues interfering with the valve action.

I should have said, if you fit one when there wasn't one before expect the power to drop a bit because you are adding preload to the EV spring.

Yes mate at least in shape but I think it's action/affect is more like a bearing/guide.

have to say ive been very tempted over the years to buy a crown............

Brilliant guns. So simple to work on. External reg adjustment with plenum gauge. AMP reg is great. Properly tuned for sub 12 so 10.34gr JSB are the most efficient. @jeffsky's sub12airgunners strip down videos on youtube.

dont encourage me!

i have watched the vids and your input and mods with interest (y)
