I have had two funnel target holders for a couple of years now. Recently, instead of the spent pellets being retained inside the funnel, they have been richocetting out. The piece of metal folded over the hollow post of the holder has been forced open. The pellets are exiting at sufficient force to travel quite a few yards.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar? What are the strongest tunnel target holders people have found?

Regards,

Richard

I take it you're using full power with it?
I stuck a steel strip down the top hole of my old one, approximately 1.5 inch wide and about 4mm thick. That solved it.
I don't think they're really recommended for full power rifles though.

Try to get the 3mm thick ones.

The wolfman ones are superb mate dearer but 1 off life purchase I reckon mine battered and still holding strong.
.although not needed I bought the fac plate and it stops most pellets dead

Got one, I welded over the top of the original welds before using it.

Filled mine with some lead from expended pellets then blow torched them to form the periphery into a slab then I shoot at that ( target in the slot) the build up of pellets on the lead slab is gradually filling the funnel and is quiet, punching the card is noisier.

Yes same here I put an old rag in the bag that helps and keeps the noise down.

I'M probably going to do the same with mine. A work mate got me it as a secret santa gift a few years ago. It's ok but, it is taking a kicking in the back from .177 FTTs.

Stick your fingers or something, into the back of it n push the flap back down. It should angle downwards with enough of a gap for the pellet to drop through.
Otherwise, fill it with tightly scrunched rags which will catch the pellets

On reading your post @Uglybeard I went to the shed and photo'd my junk funnel - is this what's happened to yours? It's now in the bin.
I now use this modified scrapped beer barrel. It has two layers of code 8 lead inside it to silence the 'ting'.

I do like the beer barrel as a target holder. The photos of the funnel show pretty much what happened to mine.

I got some plastic blanking plugs from eBay ( https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/144153089761?var=443455772206 ) and put one in the now open end of the post hole. I put a 3mm bolt through the metal and the plug, so I think that should hold up OK.
