Hello everyone
Looking for some advice on my first ever airgun. 90% of the time it will be used for shooting targets in my home garden, at around 12m. I am almost set on the Weihrauch HW30, although marketed as a junior rifle, it seems ok for adults. My main concern is I can only find it with the scope kit, and I am not sure if that is a bit overkill for 12 meters, or, considering I have not shot much other than at funfairs, I will need it :) Plus it seems a lot more fun to shoot with a scope.
The Weihrauch HW99 was the other option but it might be too powerful for what I need. Worried about noise (neighbours) and recoil basically.
What do you think? 99, 30 with scope, 30 without scope?

Thanks

A perfect choice in my opinion, the 30 is a lovely gun to own and shoot and the power is perfect for back garden plinking

I like opens for short range plinking personally as its a bit more of a challenge

Excellent choice 👌

Noise can be a problem with shooting in a garden. . The repetitive noise will eventually annoy the neighbours.

The rifle needs to be as silent as possible, but so do the targets and backstops.
The sound of pellets thwacking into targets can generate more noise than a silenced rifle.

Keep it quiet and the neighbours will never know.

Both great guns, you’ll enjoy shooting both.

Use the opens to start with and see how you get on. A scope can always be added later if you feel the need. Simples…

👍

Don’t quote me as I’m usually wrong 😉.
The 30k comes as a kit scope included, scope is functional, not great, no open sights.
The 30 comes with open sights with the option to add a scope if required.
They are great rifles for sure, great for the garden and then some , Good Luck

The distance you mention will still be a challenge if you shoot while standing (scoped or unscoped).

Budget package deals with a scope are likely to be somewhat underwhelming if you compare the packaged scope with other models.

If you are concerned about noise, a moderator can help to make it a lot quieter, but you will need to have a threaded muzzle to allow this to be added and it may obstruct open sights (i.e. you may then need a scope or red dot).

I loved my hw30 and used it first exactly what you intend. Great choice

Thanks. Anywhere in south Hampshire (around Portsmouth/Southampton area where we could go for outdoor shooting? I found a couple of places but they require membership and participate in competitions, etc. We are just looking to take our gun somewhere a couple of weekends a month (probably more during the first few weeks after we get the gun).

Coming in from a wide arc, consider a CP2. Can be long barrelled rifle, short carbine or pistol. Irons generally accurate out the box. Single shot tray or magazine. Very quiet in .22, but does thwack the paper target.
People will say temperature affects the capsules, n yes it does, but you can shoot it from in doors.

Fareham Clay shoot have a beautiful outdoor range , really lovely and was pay as you play . Stopped going due to safety concerns .
Waterlooville do have indoor ranges and its very nice place to shoot ,and they are helpful but it is membership plus fee . They have started doing outdoor occasional shoots as well at up to 100 yards .
Wickham is also close to you , Drove is much further out .

Hope all goes well with your first Rifle , I'm excited for you to be just starting out . Incidentally Botley Gun Shop had a used HW25l last time I looked .
