Hunting Finally got one.

7 years Ive been watching duckings in my garden dissapear one by one every summer, finally got one of the culprets, used dead crayfish as bait, man do they stink!

Saw 2 mink a couple of months back. Helping out on a farm I was standing next to a field gate near the river. When a mink shot out of the hedge across the gate opening it then stopped midway and froze looking at me. Then carried on across the gap to the other hedge. There was then a rustling in the hedge again and another mink appeared but would not cross the opening. The first mink ran back across the gap grabbed the second mink and dragged it across and they both disappeared into the hedge line. Never been so close to a wild mink but I presume they were male and female so young mink will be arriving. No wonder the trout fishing in the river is bad with them around.

We have at least one (but I suspect more) at work. Whilst it does mean we have no mice or rat problem we also have very little other wildlife. For the amount of hedgerow we have there are very few song birds.

Between the mink, the pike and the foxes the ducklings and goslings take a hammering every year.

Very few rabbits and squirrels either.

It’s at work. They let me clear out the feral pigeons that roost inside but not convinced them to let me sort the mink out. Which is ridiculous as they’re notifiable!

Well done sir, they're horrible vicious b*stards. I can still remember fishing a weirpool in Bedford and seeing one watching me from the other side! Bold as brass! Must be 20 years or more.

What a coincidence I fished a weirpool in St.Neots and one was watching me,and as I put small Roach back I am sure it was going for them,nasty looking thing, mitch21

They kill more than they can possibly eat though. So basically kill for the thrill of it. Never seen one but I don't like them.

Of course - I am waiting for one of my sons to report the loss of his hens to foxes... He just started keeping them and one day, no doubt it will happen.

Are you still allowed to shoot foxes with large shot and a shotgun? I have some ancient special sg cartridges that I bought around 1977. I think there are about five left.

I doubt teh .22 rf would do the trick unless a very precise shot, and not a lot of chance of that at dusk without fancy modern optics.

No specific law on what to use on a fox but 12 bore recommended in large shot - eg - BB, etc size. Must be humane dispatch.

I’ve used a silenced 20 bore with a thermal scope at close range in the past to good effect.
