Ferret or Polecat

Genuine wild polecats are rare
According to my reading there are 46,000 now and mostly in Wales, Hereford area so we are in the correct region.
where I shoot there's a family of pole cats , when we shoot the rats they come for a free takeaway
That could explain why it's (polecat or ferret cross) is in the area, that is my pest control area so there is a lot of dead rats and squirrels down there and the local rabbit population is growing again after a couple of lean years.

I will say that the Polecat site I linked to above does say genetic testing is the only way to be sure.

Thanks everyone for their input. I am very interested in this visitor, hopefully it will take up residence in one of the many rabbit burrows in the abundant hedgerows

If be tempted to see if it's a tame one, looks in too good condition to be wild, they do make a great pet, must have had about 20 of them over the years ,at one time had a run that covered about a third of my garden, used to take a cat basket of them to the local kids playground, the kids loved them and the parents freaked out. Obvs they were well handled and not biters

Frankly, if in a few months I learn visitors to the Lout Cave aren't greeted with, "Hey, fellas, watch this..." I'll feel major disappointment.
