I found the issues with the short dovetail actions can be sorted by using either Sportsmatch OP12C or ET09C, or the cantilever two piece BKL mounts BKL-274MB or BKL-278MB.

On a standard 300S action, unless a short scope or one with a small objective is used, I tend to find high mounts are better as the allow easier access into the relatively small and centrally cut loading port. This isn't an issue on the Running Boar as the loading port is offset and cut low on the right to compensate for an optical sight being fitted (the RB's having no provision for open sights.

I think one piece mounts introduce their own problems though I agree with BKL's, but they're really too high for the standard comb

I'll have a bit more flexibility, when i get the adjustable cheekpiece done

Depends what you find as a problem with one piece mounts.

This is a one piece Sportsmatch mount that I modified by machining part of the dovetail clamps off, fitted on an early short dovetail Mod 300S:


This is a pre 'S' mpdel 300, also short dovetail using a pair of custom nickel plated exte ded reach Sportsmatch rings:


BKL's are indeed slightly higher than Sportsmatch mounts, but as you mentioned getting @nobby to do an adjustable cheekpiece modification, (given the standard 'S' cheekpiece is set for using the diopters), mount height would become less of an issue so I mentioned them as a consideration. You might notice the scope on my Running Boar sits in a BKL one piece mount and is good with the comb height on that rifle.

I mean I generally find them limiting, so prefer 2pc.

Yes they're better than most modern stuff and not far off a match for the top line current target rifles

I'd definitely recommend trying one

Remember seeing an ad for the rifle in a old Airgun World magazine with lots of shot rabbits not so sure about shooting the rabbits but loved the look of the rifle, took me ages but here's mine

Forty rabbits won't be light, I think you should go for fifty, break the record

It seemed to like the pistol version of R10 wadcutters (if you want a wadcutter), but I used either Exact RS or Express if long range diablos were required. I never noted batches.

I did use it’s partner-in-crime for the AGF 20m indoor competition and the R10s were fine to 20m.

Below is the first 20 yard bench rest target I shot with it yesterday including zeroing the new scope

Just to put the above target into perspective, below is the ‘wildest” miss on the target with a jsb express covering the centre pip
A breath at the wrong time, a pulse in the neck or any kind of twitch can result in thst

No, there is insufficient swept volume in the factory internals for higher powers, from my own tinkering in the past around the 8 ft.lbs mark is about as high as they generally go with a spring change..

At 7.5 to 8.5 ft.lbs they will perform well at longer distances though.

Do you need to install spring guides to run these as single spring? Or is is the spring change the only thing you need to do?

I have one of these incoming soon. And it will most likely need new springs or spring. And buffer/seal.

Do the piston rings wear out??
