Absolutely loving this one
Bought from @Nords on here and fitted with a single mainspring and running at a very healthy 8.5ftlb
Superb condition and very good accuracy so intended for 20 yard bench rest

Comb height isn’t ideal for a 40mm objective scope so at some point soon it will get an adjustable cheek piece by Nobby, but in the new year now

Lock up was a bit over tight so I’ve carefully resized the breech seal to give a nicer lockup

I’d intended to revert back to 6ftlb using the twin original springs, but I’m going to leave as is for a while

Getting eye relief right has been a bit of a challenge (with the short dovetails) so I’ve had to get a bit creative with the mounts, which I’ve checked to make sure all relevant dimensions are the same. Rear mount is the SM T03c special with the horizontal arrester pin
Fitted a very nice Sightron S1 which with its great optics should suit it perfectly

They certainly are
I've had a couple of S's and a couple of SU's and this is probably the nicest of the lot. Definitely worth getting it how I want.

I think where this one is, is about the limit, without some serious re engineering

But, I've shot all the others I've had (all 6ftlb) out to 55 yards on the club outdoor range, with ease.
This, should actually fare better

I imagine the benefits of the system would suffer the higher the power, I'll just have to save up for a Diana air king

Nice Mate! I did run the SU for a while with a hubble, but the sleds don’t take to big scopes.

I wanted a 300 so badly when 14, they looked so different (space age?) and cool. Sadly, I don’t use them enough to keep, hence passing them on to new, deserving owners!

Most scopes look like Hubble's on the shirt 300s actions
Weight wise, there's little difference with this and a 2-7 airmax

I've had a lot of these (the S and SU's) and really like them. The others always seemed to be the right rifle, but at the wrong time and I moved them on after a while

This time its the right rifle at the right time and a lovely example too
Hoping this will see all my club target shooting requirements sorted, with a possibility of a bit of HFT with the higher than usual muzzle energy

No, there is insufficient swept volume in the factory internals for higher powers, from my own tinkering in the past around the 8 ft.lbs mark is about as high as they generally go with a spring change..

At 7.5 to 8.5 ft.lbs they will perform well at longer distances though.

The 300s / SU and Running target (all the same series of rifles) are proper class acts.
Workmanship and build quality like nothing else.
If you've never tried one, you really should

They are nice rifles, I have two, a regular 300S and a Running Boar:




Both are running factory springs at standard power output and shoot very nicely, both have had the factory varnish removed and the stocks have been oil finished.

I found the issues with the short dovetail actions can be sorted by using either Sportsmatch OP12C or ET09C, or the cantilever two piece BKL mounts BKL-274MB or BKL-278MB.

On a standard 300S action, unless a short scope or one with a small objective is used, I tend to find high mounts are better as the allow easier access into the relatively small and centrally cut loading port. This isn't an issue on the Running Boar as the loading port is offset and cut low on the right to compensate for an optical sight being fitted (the RB's having no provision for open sights.
