Is it possible to reduce the power of a F A C AAS510 to below 12 ft lbs, it would appear that F A C guns are much cheaper to buy second hand and are often more available, I already have an open F A C for full bore, it would just be a variation application I think, I have attempted to buy non F A C rifles but most want collection and are reluctant to post, I suppose the same may apply to F A C but some have been on offer more localy, and I dont need the power of a F A C.

Most forces will say once an FAC rifle it always will be. As you already have your ticket though I can see no problem adding an FAC rifle to your ticket & then making less than 12FPE.

Oh dear, this again.

Yes, you can de-tune an air rifle.
However, despite what some FLDs will allow, the law specifically prohibits the declassification of air rifles from S1 to non-FAC unless the barrel is and has always been over 24".

Nothing to stop you putting it to sub 12 and still having it it on your FAC . I would do it if I had to with my HW80 which is on my FAC as it would allow me to still have an airgun if I ever decided to give up my AWC for any reason but still keep my FAC .

For those who may ask about an FAC airgun being removed from section 1.

I don’t think the OP is asking about taking an FAC air rifle ‘off ticket’ or back converting it.

What they’re asking is can they buy one (on their FAC), but detune it for their purposes, which of course you can. If you have a slot for FAC air, or can get a variation, it’s definitely a cheap way to buy air rifles, even if you detune them - you just need to remember to treat them as a section 1 firearm at all times, regardless of power.

Too many people rush in to reply without properly reading or understating questions…

It may stop others who read it and ask if an FAC airgun can be taken off section 1 though as it often happens.

I understand OP just as that too...

I myself actually have a 12 fpe rifle on FAC, but thats because our legal limit is 8 fpe... :p

I'm sorry.
Updated reply in the light of the above clarification:

Yes, you can buy a de-tuned air rifle, but it would still be a S1 air rifle, just one with low power, and you'd still need to treat it like a S1 firearm, with how/where you store it or use it.

Thanks everyone for your expert knowledge, I do appreciate all the information, I dont have an air rifle at the moment but it makes clearer what I can do.

👍

As you say, it's always got to be treated as FAC even once de tuned. I guess what the OP needs to figure out is whether the stricter rules on storage, transport and selling on in future as well as the cost to restrict power balance out the initial saving over buying a sub12 version.

Many years ago when i had my FAC but no air rifles,i was offered a FAC air rifle. As a few friends had then bought sub 12s i concidered the FAC air rifle. But once i looked into it,it was not worth the savings with all the extra precautions, unlike the others much easier ownership .
So agree fully with the above.
