I'll let the image speak for itself. It's a forthcoming auction lot, and its going to cause consternation and bewilderment here.
Ready?
Okay...

You are looking at a "Sawn Off Webley Osprey".
Yes, you did read that right, "sawn off". But not the stock like the olde worlde bank robbers did to shotguns all that time ago in the, erm, 80's, *cough*. No, some muppet has sawn the majority of the barrel off leaving it like some poor snub nose variant.

Erm????? Why??? I mean, seriously WHY? What possible potential gain is made from this? I can't believe someone wilding a hacksaw really thought "Gosh! This makes it so much more useable now I don't have that great long barrel getting in the way all the time!" Especially when you've still got the great yawning side lever coming out the side like a hinged hockey stick.

That is wrong on so many levels! Appalling thing to do to an air rifle (or any gun really!)
What was he or she thinking 😩

My best guess is that a "bad mans ya get me" wanted to make sure "no one can mess wiv me, innit" and since he had heard the phrase "sawn off" on a film once got the hacksaw out.
Probably went around with it in his trousers trying to scare crack fiends into paying up.

I had to look to see if it was my old one

When i was younger we would try to get our rifles higher in velocity and not knowing what we were doing ( I doubt we were the the only one's to do it ) and I added preload and as the rifle often did not cock first time i had to pull the side lever back further than i should have to get it cock and the trigger unit spot weld broke from the cylinder . I had no way of getting it fixed so I gave it to my mate .

He then cut it down to make it look like a sawn off but he cut the barrel down and the stock . It looked not too bad but it would never have fired again unless he got the trigger unit welded back on at the trigger end .

The spot welds on both sides broke . This is the spot welds that broke . They can be poor with little holding them on .

Looks a good Yob, that.🙄

I'm going to do this to my break-barrel.....
The same mate that got my Osprey did it with a meteor and had to use a bit of tube to cock it as it was that short he could not grip it well and very little leverage to cock it . It shot crap too .

This was before we knew of the Fenman so it was not as if he was copying it .

Someone has gone Tracker Minus on it. Do all of the Ospreys have screw off barrels like the Target model?

Some people eh 🤦
It makes me wonder what the nutter has done inside 🙄

I suppose it might be worth a punt for £2:50 if you've already got a barrel that'll fit.
I have a Nail in my workshop waiting for restoration (probably never will happen Homer face palm) . It would make a good doner gun, shame it's missing the foresight that's the one bit I know needs replacing.
Already has 3 bids up to £9 so looks like going to be too much for me, but I will keep an eye on the auction, who knows
