I haven't used E-Bay very much for some time now, even then mostly buying not a lot of selling.
Same old story when you're buying the prices are silly high and when selling the prices are insultingly low.
Used to be a good site, sometimes you could pick up a bargain, sometimes you could get an unexpected price for an obcsure item.

Did my research, listed a dozen items at roughly two thirds of the BIN of other sellers. Prices that even I would pay even with post and buyers commission.:ROFLMAO:
No buy it now, no offers... auctions with starting prices that I thought were fair for both parties, for me it's money for stuff thats been it the cupboards for years.

A couple of days building up a decent amount of watchers then the messaging starts.
What's your best price?
How much to buy it now?
How much do you really want? I can collect it tomorrow
I've bid on your item.. can we do a deal if I collect?

All low feedback users, look like the messages are written by 12 year olds.
Not sure if it's Ebay's AI trying to catch me out or or one of the shop owners screwing me around.

I was selling a classic car and thought it was worth trying it out just to get a feel for any interest.
The car booked at £48,000 to £50,000 and I advertised it on for £47,000
After about a week I had over 80 watchers so I thought it was looking good.
However, the messages that followed I was getting with silly offers was unreal.
As I was in no rush to sell I politely declined each insult/offer, which seemed to offend some people which then caused me to receive abusive messages ??? WTF ??
One guy offered me £10,000 and wanted to also give me some crappy old Ford Cosworth to which I had absolutely no interest in.
Another guy offered me £20,000 but wanted to pay me monthly over a year, 😂
And another offered £25,000 if I would accept a £500.00 deposit and he'd settle up once he had sold his house ??!

I ended up selling the car for the asking price through word of mouth to a friend of a friend, but learnt that eBay really is just full of time wasting messers.

I don't usually get those type of messages, but all my items are BIN just above what I would want with offers allowed as people like to get a discount and it seems to help my sales.

Although I've scaled right back in recent years due to health issues.

I have a VW Camper that was nearly restored but as the prices crashed I ended up selling it for spares and getting more money for it, so far it's been ok. Just the shell to go now. In the past I had some real muppets though, I had a fishing seat on there, collection only because of the size and weight and it sold, listing was taken off and then he messaged me saying he had changed his mind as he lived in Ireland, no intention of collection, just a time waster, he even asked me if I could say that I changed my mind to stop Ebay pestering him for the money.

I have a battle on with ebay at the moment. I put a set of reloading dies on and they took the listing down. They say that dies contravene their policy on ammunition as "Dies are a component part of ammunition????????

of course unless you live in the USA...shed loads of reloading equipment for sale.

Ebay was great in 2002 when I joined I've bought & sold no end of stuff over the years and I'd built up an excellent reputation & big feedback score but the platform gradually deteriorated to a point last year when a buyer was able to use, damage, then return something to me and despite plenty of supporting evidence to show the buyer was in the wrong eBay decided to back him, forcing me to issue a full refund of over 100 quid. I've not used eBay since.

Used to use it a good few years ago mainly for buying camera stuff, I would never use it again as you can get warrantied used kit from
professional retail outlets for the same(ish) prices.

Ive given up selling on Ebay. Too many times my items sold and buyers simply didn't send the money and then ignore any communication.

It happened 3 times in a row the last incident. This was after 3, 5 day auction listings. Waste of bloody time.. Weeks of time! and Ebay didnt seem to punish the buyers actions 🙄

There's loads of reloading equipment on ebay UK. Here's the funny bit. This is a direct quote from ebays "Firearms and accessories policy"

"The following are not allowed:

Firearms of any type as defined by Section 5 of the firearms act 1968."

On that basis anything section 1, 2, 3, 4, are allowed............... or am I wrong?

I was selling a catalytic gas fire on Gumtree for £100.00. It was virtually new and still £220.00 in B&Q.
A guy from Oldham messaged me asking if I'd take £65.00, I declined the offer. He then messaged to say he needed to cover his fuel costs as it's a long way away. I replied "no it isn't, I'm sitting looking at it right now."

That is only one of the things they prohibit in relation to firearms . All the rest of the items listed will apply to section 1 and 2 and even airguns as they dont allow certain airgun parts.

What is the policy?

The following are not allowed:

  • Firearms of any type as defined by Section 5 of the Firearms Act 1968
  • Parts and accessories for assault weapons, including blueprints and instructions for their construction
  • Firearm parts, including, but not limited to, barrels, firing pins, trigger assemblies, bump stocks, and magazines
  • Any part or accessory in violation of local law
  • Firearm receivers, even if incomplete
  • Ammunition for firearms, including bullets, cartridges, casings, shells, and hulls
Firearm accessories that we allow, such as slings, holsters, and scopes, must follow these guidelines:

  • The listing must clearly identify the part or accessory being sold as well as the kind of firearm it is compatible with, for example, “This part is intended for use with bolt-action rifles"
  • The listing cannot include a picture of an actual firearm

I gave up with them a couple of years ago when they took down a listing for a couple of Daystate mags. Part of a firearm they said! I tried to explain then gave up. I note there are plenty of airrifle mags listed ! Their policy only seems to apply when it suits them.....
They also have a ban of any firearms (or parts of firearms) in photos.....Except when they choose to ignore their own rules. Some optics sellers pls note. Then of course there's the new hoop for sellers to go through. "Registering with HMRC"..." No thanks. Homer face palm

I tend to avoid eBay for selling these days. Marketplace may be a madhouse but at least you don't have Facebook siding with the buyers all the time. I have two rules: Ignore stupid offers and make it clear that the deal is first to collect wins. I've had far too many "sorry I couldn't come, my cat died" stories 🙄
