So, due to me taking insulin and getting my eyes lasered to stop bleeding (people with Diabetes will know) 6 years ago i was put on a 3 year medical licence that i have to renew every 3 years.
So i sent it in a month earlier than was expected and heard nothing. Then a letter came saying i had to renew, 30 mins later sent off via online.
My licence ran out over a week ago!
Called DVLA and was told my application was in a que and would be seen when they could get to it
So there is a special dispensation called IIRC Section 88 where you get your GP to go online and he fills in a form £35 the Doctors charge for this by the way.
So asked to see my GP...... No appointments so i asked if she could ask him to do it asap as i need the car as the wife is ill.
here is what i have got back from the surgery..... Screenshot_20260421_155652_Edge.webpScreenshot_20260421_155709_Edge.webp

So back on to DVLA and was told the GP has to go onto the DVLA website and see me and then the section 88 can be used and i can drive again.
So i am in limbo here as both parties just don't give a toss!
Nothing has changed since my last approval and things with my health have got better. My eyesight is the same as it was and no more laser since.
I cannot get the doctor to believe there is a section 88 that allows him to look at my records and see that things are the same as last time except i have had a bypass that has made me more fit and healthy.
Why has it to be so hard?
I had the wife drive me around today for around 5 miles and have just taken her up her morphine as she is in agony so what exactly are we supposed to do?
Yes i am exceptionally wound up now

Try to not let it wind you up mate. That's easily said I know but, none of us on here want you to have a mischief. I might be wrong but, wasn't there a way that you're still allowed to drive while you wait for them to pull their finger out 🤔

I was supposed to notify DVLA in 2023, 2025 and February just gone but I have no desire to deal with those halfwits ever. I took myself off the roads near the end of 2023 and, I have no desire to drive again.

Good luck mate and, best wishes to your wife 💐🙂👍

It's a right piss take, mate.
There are so many things like this, where different services are so out of sync. One expects the other to do something, the 2nd party hasn't got a clue, or simply can't be bothered. And us lot are stuck in the middle, trying to get one or the other to do something about it.

Hope you manage to get it sorted, pronto.

Im good mate honest i am, i just wanted to vent a bit.
Yes mate there is a way i am allowed to still drive and that is the Section 88 i am trying to get
The Doctor is just acting like a Knob because he cannot be bothered but to be fair the dvla do not make it easy for him as there is not a form but an online questionair, well i think anyway.
I will just have to get someone else to drive me around but people are busy with their own lifes.

I can't comment on your personal situation, but my "Licence Renewal" has been held held up for six or more weeks due to DVLA needing to assess my medical fitness to drive (albeit them not informing me of such till I called them to inquire as to how my Licence application was progressing). They went though the medical requirements with me there and then over the phone and advised me that I could have a Section 88 exemption from then onwards but would subsequently need to fill in a questionnaire regarding health related aspects of "Fitness to drive" supported by reference to Medical Healthcare Specialists involved with each DVLA "Flagged Medical Problem". On the various forms provided by DVLA are "Requests for Authority to discuss my medical situation" with any of the listed "Healthcare professionals", but that's as at DVLA's discretion following review by the DVLA Medical Review Team and according to the documentation received to date is subject to review on an individual basis and not required in every case.
I've got the Section 88 Exemption Docs "buried in my Filing System" hidden under my Laptop keyboard, but the Cover letter refers me to INF88/6, "can I drive while my application is with DVLA".

HTH helps your case but if need be can exchange more info by DM.
