With the season coming to an end soon ,I decided on a solo flight on the pond I feed .
Got there at 1600 and had a short wait until a pack of wigeon came in .All drakes and I bagged one despite shooting at another one as well .Well pleased as in my opinion they are the best eating .
Just settled back in and another pack of mallard did a low fly by and I let them , knowing next time would be paddles down and sure enough they did with me bagging an easy left and right ,duck and drake .
Well please and left as a mixed pack of wigeon and mallard touched down in the dark ,their calls haunting the night as I walked away .Some fine eating ahead .da1c174a-a4cb-4e44-8012-0133610c1610.jpeg

Personaly i do not shoot them,
they cause me no problems
and my landowners want them left alone

I shoot ducks and geese purely because I like eating them and the sporting aspect of flighting them .I have a place where I’m allowed to shoot them with the airgun but it dosnt appeal to me .Pheasants no problem as I hate shot in the breast but ducks seem to either carry shot in the fatty skin or right through internally .
If I liked the taste of hare I’ve plenty of them to go at but I find it a tad too strong .

100% to all of that. I keep wanting to try hare a different way though, however I don’t have any permissions that will allow it.

Pity you arnt closer mate .Ive perms where they want them thinned out .I do a few for mates but ideally I need to take about 30 off there .Lads with running dogs plague the place in the Autumn on the stubbles .
I need to find a buyer really .

Same here, we’re plagued with long dogs and their arsehole owners so there aren’t many about, the ones that are the owners like to see 🤷🏼‍♂️

Have to honest here mate .I don’t see lads that run anything as the enemy .I used to do same so it would be hypocritical of me to condemn them now .
It’s the landowners that see things different and want the hares thinned .We have hundreds of hares here ,almost plague proportions tbh .

I can’t do with anyone trespassing on the land Im trying to look after, it’s hard work trying to manage it all, takes a massive amount of time as you know and hugely costly to me In terms of feed for species both on and off of the GL.

Nice shooting. If I could only partake in one type of shooting it would probably be duck flighting - there’s just nothing like it, all of your senses heightened, the anticipation, the level of field craft required, brilliant.
