Does this scope exist? 2-7(ish) mag, small objective, half mil dot, not compact.

Long story short; I want a low(ish) mag, small objective standard format lightweight hunting scope with a decent half mil dot reticle.

It's to mount on a HW100K, and I want to use single strap Sportsmatch low mounts - before everyone shouts BKL, they don't do anything as low and I don't want to have the stock altered.

I've previously used a Hawke 3-12x44 SF which was great other than the bulk and forward balance. Currently using a Nikko Panamax 3-9x40AO which is great other than size/it's barely far enough back to get the right eye relief.

I've considered both Hawke Airmax 2-7 and Hawke Panorama 2-7, but they'd both necessitate a move to picatinny mounting as they're so short, and the same goes for Vector Veyon, MTC Copperhead and Optisan CP 3-12, plus they've all got fussy reticles.

I have a Hawke Vantage 2-7 x 32 but it's regular mil dot and I've grown to rely on the half mil dot reticle. There's the Wulf Fireball, but the ret is a bit thick and I'd like something a bit better.

Am I missing anything obvious? I tend to shoot on 4-6x mag. The mounting issue on the HW100 is the interrupted block, with short scopes on dovetail mounts you can't get most things far enough back on low mounts, or mediums on bigger objective scopes.

  • vortex pst 2-10
  • nikon prostaff 3-9 (ok, not half mildot but the bdc ret gives you 9 or so aim points)

I'd got for the Hawke 2-7x32 Panorama scope. Then just get some reach back / offset / cantilever mounts to get over the mounting issue?

Have you looked at these or similar> see linky:

Not sure if its the type of thing your after (no side wheel etc..)
However I got one of these a while back to form part of a NV setup and have been more than pleased with it for its limited use.

Cheers, I did mention the Wulf above - I think I might have to try another, they’re perfectly useable, I just feel like a HW100 might deserve something higher up the scale…

How about keeping the current scope but using a one piece mount? That way the mount will bridge the magazine slot and allow you to adjust the whole mount and scope to suit your eye relief.

You don't need to convert your rail. I use these.
They don't add that much height.
Used them CP2, P15 n TX200HC. Work really well. Have some Vector Optics ones n can't see any difference other than the name on them

@Varminter is 1/2 half mil dot a complete necessity? Do you have a pulse?

If not, why not have ganders at the Immersive Optics 5x24?

Konus offer their pro 2-7x32 which is 12>13” long, the duplex is nice but not 100% if they offer 1/2dot

Another vote for the airmax 4-12 x 40 , quite a bit longer than the 2-7 versions , I’ve one on my prophet Sam , more than welcome to drop over and test it for fit

Cheers

I’ve tried an immersive, they’re not for me.

Bigger scopes actually fit fine on low mounts as the longer tube allows the objective bell to sit over the end of the block. With smaller objective scopes they can sit over the block but the issue is getting them far enough back before the gap in the block.

I have used a CP in a SM one piece mount on mine previously, meets all the criteria you ask, with the option for more mag if you ever wanted it.
One piece gave unlimited eye relief changes over the gap in the action.

I haven’t a picture to hand, but have also used a 2-7 panorama in low single strap SM mounts.
To suit me, I found it worked fine with dovetail mounts to suit my eye relief. Will try to get a picture later- it’s on a different rifle at the moment.

Here you go….. 2-7 pano, in SM low single mounts.
In this position, it affords the correct eye relief for my use.

If you compare to the pic with the CP, the occular lens sits further back on the pano, than the cp- and neither scope is known for particularly long eye relief.

Hope this helps👍

My choice would be the Spina Optics 2.5-10x32... They retail for around 70 quid on Amazon. 🙂

I have one fitted to my Mito conversion and it works a treat. 🙂

One of these may suit - not cheap but they feature a longer eye relief and are optically superior to most other suggestions:
