Just looking for a bit of info please
Ta Rob

What I'm after, is a bit of info about the bell target itself

I understand they have scoring rings for anything other than a perfect shot. Are these rings used to score, in a normal bell target comp?
Is it easy to see the impact on bare steel or do you stick any kind of target face on?

Thanks

Key Scoring Principles & Rules
  • Distance & Equipment: Shot at 6 yards (or 7m) using .177 caliber air rifles with open or diopter sights, standing, without artificial support.
  • The Goal: The goal is to hit a 3/8 inch (9.54mm) hole in the center, which rings a bell behind it.
  • Point System:
    • 5 Points (Bull/Bell): A shot that rings the bell. In some competitions, this requires the pellet to be completely within the bull, not just touching the edge.
    • 4, 3, 2 Points: Points for decreasing rings. Some rules skip '1' and go directly to lower numbers.
    • 5.1 / 5.5 Bonus: Often awarded for a "dead center" shot that completely clears the 5-ring area (obliteration).
  • Marking the Card: The target plate is painted with white oil paint before every shot. The pellet impact creates a black mark on the white surface, which is used to determine the score.
  • Line Cutting (Inward Scoring): Generally, if a pellet mark touches a higher-scoring line, the higher score is awarded (though rules can vary, with some using strict "entirely inside" rules for the bull).
  • Matches: A typical match consists of 5-8 shots to count, often with one sighting shot allowed.

I shoot bell target every week, with both the Lincolnshire & Nottinghamshire leagues. With our leagues, yes they are scoring rings, the scoring is, 5.5 for a bell, 5 for the inner ring, then 4, 3, 2. to us, a bell is a bell, so you don't need a clean target face, you can go in off the rim, also we have no power limit other than under 12ftlb.
You can see on my target i use Tipex, but club targets use the oil based "paint" which doesn't set.
We have various categories, rifle, springer, pistol, as well as male, female junior, veteran, if i can offer any further help please contact me
