Hi all. I am considering changing from dovetail to picatinny mounts for my rimfires.....22lr and .17hmr. I have looked around and the eagle vision adaptors look good quality, as is usual for their stuff. My concern is, I will want to be able to change optics with no, or very little, loss of zero. I want to use one nv scope on both rifles if possible. I know I will have to check zero after a change but was hoping for some actual findings from people who have used these adapters...or any other ones...particularly regarding zero loss after a change. Hope this makes sense and all experiences appreciated.
Cheers
Chris.

Oops...Yes it should say dovetail in the title sorry, I'm afraid I don't know how to edit.
Cheers

As we look for very good accuracy in air rifles, often a 5p at 30/40m is quoted, then it's hard to get optics to swap from rifle to rifle and not be out by double this, so personally, I always re zero and would not feel comfortable not doing so after a mount o/scope or rifle swap over

Hi Jesim, yes I appreciate the need to check zero, and I know that high end picatinny mounts and rails claim no zero loss with optic removal and replacement. I was hoping for people's experience with the adaptors as opposed to fitted picatinny rails. No need for the roll your eyes emoji as I will, of course, check zero, whether or not I change optics, prior to taking a shot at any live quarry.

Hi Mr Yan. thankyou. I've not used any picatinny stuff before so am grateful of your experience and findings. If it weren't for the fact I'm going to buy a decent day and night vision scope and want to use it on more than one rifle, I would be quite happy with standard dovetail mounts, and as you say, I would have to consider the overall mounting height. Good to hear that they work well tbough. Many thanks for the link and the benefit of your experience using adapters.
Cheers
Chris.

Have you tried good quality dovetail mounts fixed in the exact same position to the same torque setting? A recoil pin helps here or ensuring 1 mount is flush with the end of the rail etc.

Any adapter will raise the scope up a fair bit.

I use the Eaglevision rails on my FAC R10 , 452 HMR and 455 LR with no issues but always check zero as you would before any actual pest control session. Apart from using the same slots I always push the scope/N/V forward that fraction. I prefer the clamp type fixing as i have found that those with the six grubscrews can mark up the original Dovetail

Hi captain slackbladder, I've got a .cz455 and a tikka t1x and am aware of a bolt on rail for the t1x but want to use the same rail for both rifles if possible. And hi Billy boy. Yes I'm ok with dovetail mounts thankyou but want to know about picatinny adapters. Hi Metalman, Thankyou, I was hoping someone would have used the eagle vision ones and I'm aware that the mounts need pushing forward in the picatinny rail prior to clamping when attaching the scope but thankyou for the tip, well worth a mention as I've not used them before. I'm pleased to hear the eagle vision mounts work well for you as I too don't like the idea of grub screws pushing down on top of the original dovetail rail. Also the eagle vision rail is not too high although I know it will lift the scope so may have to use lower mounts. Thanks again for your findings and experience with the eagle vision rails...much appreciated before I make a purchase.

Hi Tillygti6. Thankyou and I have looked at the rail in your video but think it will be a bit too high on my rifles. Nice rail though and great clear explanative video, Thankyou.

I cant offer any real advice on the pros and cons of scope height on your guns, but even a cheap(but reasonable quality ) pic rail setup returns quite close to where it was. Definitely still want to take a couple test shots but they return to zero surprisingly well.

Chris,

I’d go for separate pic rails, if you want to swop the scope between rifles, use QD mounts (spoiler alert they normally are far from cheap) I have an American Defence one piece QD mount that’s repeatable on the same rifle, not tried it on a second. I would think that you’ll need to re zero on moving as the rounds will have different velocities and trajectories.
That being the case, you may wish too reconsider your options.

Hi Fred. Thankyou. That's why I want to fit the same rail to both rifles and the night sight I'm looking at has the ability to store several different zeros for different rifles then you select the zero settings appropriately after zeroing on each rifle and saving the zero settings to the memory, so, I suppose all I can do is keep all mounting hardware identical on each rifle and see how it goes. Thanks for the info about your findings with the QD mounts. Much appreciated.
Cheers
Chris.

Chris,
Ive a 6.5 creedmoor with the QD mount fitted, 11 days ago, after last shooting at 100 (zero check) a few months ago, and always removing the scope from the rifle to fit it in the gun cabinet). At Warminster IR2, I shot at 300 yards. No 100 check. Using the same dope as last year, I needed to adjust 0.2 mil elevation and 0.1 mil left. At 100 there would have been no left adjustment and possibly 0.1mil elevation. The mounts are that good. (y)

Hi Fred, Thankyou for that, that is indeed very good repeatability and just the kind of info I need. You have also mentioned the other issue I will need to address with the picatinny rails, the night sight i want would probably not fit in the cabinet comfortably on the rifles so the ability to remove and replace it quickly and accurately would address the using it on different rifles issue and also make life much easier with the "fitting it in the cabinet" issue, again, many thanks, much appreciated.
Cheers
Chris.

Just pick a decent make of Picatinny rail that makes one for both the CZ and Tikka, then you can’t really go wrong.

I toyed with a QD mount for a while and came to the conclusion they gave no real advantage over a decent set of one piece regular mounts. IMHO these are just as quick to fit, but more importantly, you can attach them using the same repeatable torque and they give at least, if not better repeatable zero than a QD mount.

To add another option, I would suggest you get a pair off these for each rifle and set the, so that the scope one piece mounts slip on each one. They clamp symmetrically and then you have a permanent solution for swapping between.

I‘m not dissing EV products as I have bought a few bits from them in the past, but the idea of a pic/weaver rail clamping asymmetrically onto a dovetail makes my brain go into turmoil.

ALL my rifles (air, rf, and cf) have permanently affixed pic/weaver rails and the scope mounts move not the rail.

a pic of my 90k with the above set up. It’s a cheap reliable solution, the more expensive option is to get a Brittania (or similar) one piece pic rail and leave one on each rifle.
