Dehumidifier in a cabinet?

The main reason for having a big, feck-off dehumidifier is that my airguns are kept in my workshop and that I have a lot of expensive tooling in there. All my guns are stored in soft cases and each case also has large silica bags in as well. With the dehumidifier set to 70% I doubt if it runs for more than a couple of hours a day and I replace and dry the bags each month plus use Ballistol on most surfaces when required. Having 2 big freezers in the workshop doesn't help matters either.

Thermostatic cupboard heaters in the bottom of the safe and a humidity monitor is a good option and only costs £30 to fit and forget

Following my impending bungalow adaptions I’ll be making my gun cupboard more secure with some rifle racking and will be adding a couple of the car sized silica gel packs, so will have a kilo or so of the gel to deal with ant moisture issues and with a trip through a warm oven periodically, I don’t see me having any issues 🤓👍

If you can seal up any gaps in the cabinet so that the silica gel is only keeping the cabinet dry and not the entire room/house they should keep going for a lot longer before needing refreshing.

Another VP90 user.... I buy one for each of my cabinets every year, I have the new one and the previous years one in the cabinet and throw away the the oldest.
Works for me with 2 loft mounted cabinets.

I used these when I had a cabinet and never had any problems with moisture, just stuck it in the bottom of the cabinet and changed it every few months when it was full

Seal most gaps leaving a tiny amount of ventilation only, put in some heat insulation and put a small light bulb, 25W or so in the bottom. If you achieve a heat rise of just 5 degrees above the outside, then your Humidity level will never be higher than 80%. If you can couple the bulb power via a humidity setting switch ,then that is perfect, but I honestly don't know whether any of this is worth it, unless your residence gets condensation problems.

I use these and they do seem to do the job.
I have one in the walldrobe and you will be surprised how much it can pull out over a few months
can normally get them from home bargains or b&m etc...

ok i use the vp90 pads my guns always left to acclimatise before returning to cabinet , temperature and not condensate ,o and cleaned , wiped down with light oil or wood cream i know people who use a new nappy turned inside out , a clean one , as for de humidifier or other water forcing products can have the opposite effect as its drawing moisture from outside the cabinet of taking the fluid from the wood of the stock making them age and become brittle and cabinet opened regular

Hi there
Well I never bothered putting a cheap one in but the other week I thought I will try it and boy I am amazed how much it's collected,👍
