Daystate Huntsman Mk2 Exhaust Valve Stem Bent,Help Please.

Hi All
I bought a Daystate huntsman mk2 a couple of months back as a prodject
and have managed to bend the exhaust valve stem,now can that be sorted
or do I have to source another,which I don’t think will be very easy,I had a trawl through
the usual spares places with no luck,any help much appreciated.

Just a thought , could you post up a photo on here and maybe one of the forums skilled engineering gents could make a replacement for you.
 
Might sound a bit rough n ready, but a friend (my RFD!) hada Regal that leaked, took me ages to work out the valve stem was ent. I think yours is about the same, maye 30mm long and a few mill across, with the white nylon stopper on the end?
Give it a roll on some glass to find th ehighest point (the biggest bit of bend, if you like) transfer onto a piece of true flat metal (NOT wood, it doesnt work) so the stem is on the metal ut the nylon isnt, and give it a tap with a small hammer. repeat till the glass says its flat.

It does work, the regal has been fine since I repaired it (about 8 month ago I think). I had a very, very small bend so it was difficult ot work out, but the principle is the same. I suspect th ebend was present from firing a few too many times with th ehammer wound too far out, and over time it went just enough to leak. With yours, I'm guessing that you knocked it out and it had a little accident :)

I'd second @BUFFY VAMPIRE SLAYER's question - these are fairly thick and also well-supported in the valve body.. anyway, tbh I think it's toast - IMO you need to source a replacement as bending it back is likely to be difficult at best and risks damaging its bore in the valve body which is potentially far more problematic.

I doubt Daystate will be much use so you'll probably need one of the forum's machinists to knock you one up. You could try to re-use the valve head if you can separate it from the bent stem, but I'm not sure how they're attached and if they're bonded you're on a hiding to nowt.

I have tried the small hammer trick but that did not do it any good
as the shaft is really hard.
just had another search and found that t r robb has got the exhaust valve
for the harrier,so will phone him tomorrow to see if will fit the huntsman.
thanks for all the suggestions I will let you know how I get on.

Thats the old type valve from the original huntsman . check the head of the stroke adjuster bolt for ware . if it has a knotch dent in the end . reface it has thats what bends the valve stem .
 
most stems are delrin/brass screwed on to a pin.
some pins you can actully make from a stainless bolt, just unscrew the original and cut/fit a new stem
edit
they some can also be straitened easy enough, afterwards a quick skim on a lathe of the sealing face area will fix it.
 
Think I got the last daystate huntsman mk 2 valve in the uk for my chuntsman years ago, the one in the pic above looks like a good homemade replacement with a brass head, the chuntsman one has a plastic head & daystate replacement same only better quality, sure someone on here can make you a replacement .
 
The plastic Chuntsman version are available in Canada and not scary expensive. Replaced the one shown #12 with Delrin head.

How easy are these to service? I have an elderly MK2 and while it's holding air I'm sure it would benefit from a strip and clean and new o rings

The Old Beast deserves to be brought out if retirement , they do , I'd love one tbh, but quite happy with my chuntsman chinese copy now I've tuned it & replaced the crucial parts with genuined daystate bits (fill valve & fireing valve) In fact that's the gun that got me into daystates as i thought if the copy can be this good what are the originals like? If you can't find a stripdown guide try the yellow forum look for BAM B50/51 stripdowns they are identical inside.

Is the yellow forum gatewaytoairguns? I only usually look at AGF, the BBS and STB unless a Google search takes me to a random one .
