Dash cams - advice and recommendations please?

The problem with that one is that the rear view is from your rear view mirror so anything in the car can block it.........its more of an in car view that a rear view
You focus it so its looking out the rear view screen, so it does not see the driver, etc, but yes it would be blocked if carrying loads of big/bulky stuff in the rear, which I never do, so it would not be an issue for me personally. I like the idea of a two in one unit.

So it picks up everything you do as well, picking your nose and wiping it on the passenger seat etc.
There are now rear cameras that bluetooth to the front or even a cheap one for the rear and turn off the display
You can focus the rear view camera so it only sees through the rear view screen, so it will not see the driver or passengers.

Before you make any decisions, I suggest you have a browse around in here. It's a bit of a minefield, but you will find all the information that you need.

I fitted the Nextbase G322 cam with optional rear facing cam attached. I used the hardwire kit which piggy-backs onto a fuse in the fusebox. I rarely have rear passengers and although the view is similar to a rear view mirror, it will always pick out the number plate of any car up your backside, so to speak! The 3 minute segments are easily downloaded to your phone whilst still in the car if necessary.

Thank you.
Wow!
A bit too much for me to take in right now, though.
Will try to get a look in the next day or two.

Will let you know if they were a reasonable buy after I’ve got them live 🫰🏻🙏

Great camera set up for the money, hardwired them in BUT all the setting changes are done via a smartphone app connected to the cam via WiFi. Not an issue here but may be a problem for the OP.

Parked collision detection remains to be seen how sensitive it is (hopefully not one we’ll need).
Night driving was still pretty clear too. Can set the small screen to auto off after 10 seconds.

I’ve have had the Thinkware U1000 hardwired in front and rear cameras for the last 2.5 years and the set up has been fantastic. Last week I visited the dentist and parked in a short stay car parking bay for 3/4 of an hour then returned home. It was only when I had reversed into the garage I noticed a 1 foot mark across the centre of the bonnet, just below the car badge. Some idiot with a bag possibly had passed by and marked the car, fortunately not breaking the paintwork but leaving a heavy mark. I don’t know if this was intentional but I was parked at the front end of the parking bay with nothing but pavement in front of me so I suspect it was.

No problem I thought, I’ll check the dash cam footage which has a “parking event” feature which includes motion detection. Due to the dental appointment I knew exactly what time I parked up and the dash cam recorded when I returned. The data is recorded on a micro sd card which I put into a card reader and connected it to my mobile. The recordings are in 20 second segments and I began to scrawl through the data until I had to take the wife shopping. This meant putting the card back into the car. On our return I removed the card again to continue my search for the culprit. Unfortunately the hour I was reviewing was not to be seen in the cards memory ????? The recording from parking up to returning home had disappeared????? The normal recording was continued and is ok now. I am an old techno phobe and have no idea what I have done wrong. The technician at the car centre who fitted the system was also baffled and also checked the cards data on his pc?? Can anyone help find this lost hour of my life and help identify the scrote (?) who marked my car please?
PS, I had washed the car the afternoon before then garaged so I knew it was spotless and unmarked. Thanks for reading to the end !

Look in your files ( on your mobile.) and see if you have saved it ,also check your deleted, if you used VLC it will have a record of your viewing and maybe the file reference to search for.

Thanks Jimbob, I’ll have a look and let you know how I get on.
