Hello
Just ordered a tuned HW99s, I chose it because it's light, reliable and with the tuning it'll be very accurate with low recoil. I have shot one of these a few times and am certain it's the right tool for me.

As I shoot vermin for a few businesses located around a couple of industrial estates which are close to where I live, frankly I'd like to walk there and back weather permitting, so it needs to be easily transportable and as non rifle looking as possible.

With that in mind I'd like to get a custom stock that either folds, or has a detachable butt. Is there anywhere out there that does such a thing? I love wood, but would consider any material if it ticks the right boxes and doesn't compromise my ability to shoot.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Hi because it's full power and because of the barrel length a fold down stock or detachable butt would make it illegal.

I didn't know that.
What's the power limit and max barrel length for detachable stocks? This gun does come with a lightly shortened barrel.

You have that Pizza box shaped survival springer that launched while back, but it’s a lot easier with PCP’s, for example NP03, TDR, Leshiy etc.

If a full length rifle is a take down from new it must have a mechanism so it can't fire when in take down configuration IE the air arms tdr.Can be a grey area I would leave it as is especially if you're knocking about in public even in a bag

Cheers, I'll speak with the gunsmith and see what he suggests. It's possible he can build some kind of mechanism into it.

I like the look of the game keeper TDR, but they are quite hard to source.

Errrr

Are we back to Brocock rangers and Katrans are illegal? Thought AGF had finally moved past that argument.

Hi IAM not getting into that argument etc.All I'm saying is if you turn a 99 into a take down or remove the butt it may be illegal. I've not got the knowledge or specs on the legality to comment on other rifles,as we know with the law and air rifles/pistols some do fall into a grey area. And btw this thread COULD be put up to cause a argument etc by a returning member .I could be wrong btw

That’s a great choice Hawkwood👌
Cannot see you being able to do much with the stock because as others have said that would be illegal!
Best thing to do is carry it in something that doesn’t give away what it is. I personally would just use a gun slip and be done with it.

It strikes me that this is looking at it from the 300mm (minimum barrel length) / 600mm (minimum overall length) rule that applies to firearms (excluding muzzle loaders) and which also doesn't strictly apply to air rifles.

In the case of an HW99S, if the barrel is full length, with the stock removed it's total length will exceed 600mm so it would not be an issue.

Thanks for all the replies, as for the odd suggestion that I might want to start an argument, definitely not.

I've always used springers, I'm an old fashioned fella who has a preference for things I know and understand. There's nothing wrong with PCP, I just prefer the simplicity that comes from owning a gun that has unlimited shots in it, assuming I'm able to muster the energy to cock it.

I'll look into the legality obviously, that didn't even occur to me. Assuming this can be done I don't view it as butchering the rifle. It's a tuned gun from the very start, with a lot of work being done on the internals, plus a custom barrel, and so having a custom made stock would just be another way of making it personal to me, and tailoring it for my specific requirements.

We'll see what the gunsmith says : )

I've got too many guns 🥴
but iirc. To take the stock off the action of the hw99 the trigger guard has to be removed and the smaller screw has a tiny nut that tends to dislodge itself in the trigger mechanism, so probably not a good idea

That nut very easily sticks in position with blue araldite.

There's a Webley Venom rifle in either this or last months AGW with a folding stock, it didn't look very comfortable against the cheek though.
The 99s probably isn't the best choice for a complete stock removal, as mentioned there is the escaping nut, which is solvable, but unless you can find a gun case which is going to protect that alloy trigger blade you could roll up ready to rock'n'roll and find you have a broken rekord (see what I did there?).
I wonder if a quick release pin for the cocking link might work? I think the triangular survival rifle mentioned above has one which allows the barrel to be opened without cocking, it may then fit into a different shape of bag, although you'd still have the length of the action and stock to contend with.

This sprang to mind...
