Currys Rant.

The only problem I've had with Currys was when we ordered a new washing machine and it didn't turn up on the promised delivery date.
I phoned them to ask why it hadn't been delivered and was told "The lorry is stuck in a field". Exactly why or how this had happened they couldn't answer, and while I'm sure the story would have been amusing (how do you get a lorry delivering electrical goods stuck in a field ???) my main concern was when the washing machine would be delivered.
You might have thought that having failed not only ourselves but everyone else whose purchase was on the lorry, they'd pull out the stops to recover the vehicle and get the deliveries done, but apparently not. Instead I was told that the delivery would be "rescheduled", but they would give us no firm date beyond "a couple of weeks".
That was no good to us because our old machine had broken down and we needed a new one ASAP, so we drove to our local Currys which is only 15 minutes away, marched in with the order receipt, and cancelled the order. To their credit there was no quibble and the money was refunded immediately.
Then we went straight to a local independent electrical retailer and chose another machine. Upon asking when it could be delivered the salesman said "Hold on a minute, I'll see if there's one in the warehouse". After a brief phone call he told us they had one, and all we had to do was drive to their warehouse (in a different part of town) and pick it up. No problem because I had a large estate car at the time, and within an hour it was installed at home.

The biggest con with curry’s is the gold plated hdmi etc etc leads
They say the gold makes the signal better
What a load of ********
All modern signals are digital or optical and the gold makes no difference to the picture
Or their 3 year warranty on Dyson hoovers
Dyson actually cover the first two years no quibble and currys the last year
So technically your only paying massively for a one year extended warranty

Gold plating does offer benefits for connectors. Probably the most affordable is tin plating. So long as the connector is cleaned before putting together removing greasy finger marks I suspect either works just as well.

Due to personal experience and hearing from others over the years there are two companies I would NEVER have any dealings with CURRYS & CARPET RIGHT. How these two survive is a mystery to me, everything about them makes me want to 🤮. Another one similar was Toys r us ( good riddance )

Curry’s are fine if what you want is in stock and you can carry it out.
If you need to order something for delivery or God forbid you need customer care post purchase then you’ll need the patience of a saint.
Just don’t.

Does anybody remember the Monster Cable SCART lead scam they used to run in Currys?

They would have two separate set ups of a TV and video player, both showing the same thing. One would be using a Monster branded SCART lead, and the picture was much better than the other setup, which you assumed would be using an inferior SCART lead.

However, if you went and actually looked at the set up, you would see that the inferior set up was using a very basic composite connection, which was never going to be as good as even the cheapest of SCART leads.

The advertising board said ‘The difference is Monster’, when in reality the difference was a blatant scam.

Currys continued trying to rip people off with HDMI leads. I remember looking at them the shop, and was going to spend about £10 on a Belkin branded one, but then the sales assistant came over and tried tell me that these cheaper leads wouldn’t work properly for HD stuff, and I ‘needed’ to spend about £90 on a lead.

That’s what I was thinking about
Turned out they got made to refund the difference if you went back and complained

I had similar issues with a damaged cooker, I’ll never use them again

Hello, my son had a new washer delivered by AO and the men rushed off, on taking the wrapper off the top was caved in

Very different experience to my own... AO provided live tracking of the delivery vehicle, the 2 guys took to old washer away, unpacked the new one in front of us and checked it over completely before they left.

I haven't bought anything from them for about 30 odd years because of a similar incident, this was a TV. Recently we went to one to view a working TV, then bought it off the web. As we walked through the door, I was greeted with "good afternoon sir(no mention of the wife, that's dangerous I thought) how are you today?" She said, "why, are you a social worker"?:D. What a plonker, he didn't have a reply, good job he didnt

Curry’s were exceptional when I need tv replacing m, cannot fault them.

Curry’s are a nightmare
Had the same problem with a brand new telly
And Halfords are worse
I bought my wife a dashcam and it stopped working after a week
The manager wanted to get a independent to check it first
I refused as it was within the 30days
He still didn’t move
So I refused to leave until he refunded the £300
He phoned the police and I got asked to step outside
Problem was sorted by the nice policewoman
But a few weeks later I got a letter from Halfords banning me from all Halfords and if I was ever seen in one I would be arrested for trespass
Isn't trespass a civil matter and therefore not arrestable matter????
