This was given to me by a neighbour, needing a re-seal. in order to take it out of the stock I had to remove the safety. I have stripped it and put some new seals in and rebuilt it but it doesn't want to cock 🤬 . Do I need to reinstall the safety for it to do so?

I don't think so.
When you say it won't cock, what do you mean? Will the bolt not move back at all? Will it move back but not cock the action? etc.
It sounds like something has not gone back together quite right. You may need to strip it and reassemble it again.

Looking at a parts diagram the 2260 only has one spring in the trigger mechanism, and it seems to act on the trigger, sear and safety catch so it looks likely that You will need the safety catch fitted, or perhaps the spring isn't correctly located against the sear.

Aaaargh it shouldn't be rocket science, will install the safety tomorrow (once I find it in the shed!) and see if it works!
If I move the spring that holds the safety the trigger sear is solid, without it, it is more mobile!!

I could be wrong about the safety catch. It could have been my xs78 I ran without the safety catch, not my 2260. Hope you find it and it sorts it out.

Well the answer is yes, it needs to be in place, not set, just in place. It keeps the trigger sear firm so that it catches the hammer. It needs to be removed to get the action in or out of the stock. Now to go and a cylinder to see if it is fixed!!

I have found 1 cylinder with the pistol I never use! Put it in, screwed in and couldn't pierce the cap!! It does look pretty heavy duty will have to search for the others 🤬 Perhaps I should have tightened a few things up more?

My 2240 often takes 2-3 dry fires to pierce correctly.
What is the brand of co2? Some of them have wider necks than others meaning that they don't sit against the valve quite so well.
Crosman co2 should fit and I've never had a problem with Webley hard air brand.

It's a Umarex? That should be alright I would have thought, if it was unbranded I would suspect the cartridge

I think my hammer spring is a bit bent! could this be a problem? There is a small dent in in the top of the CO2 cartridge, but it is not pierced!!

ok, I have stripped it again, found my lost CO2 cartridges and it doesn't make any difference, the valve stem seems to need a lot of pressure to move it and I am not convinced the hammer action is strong enough to do the job! It could be that the hammer spring is too weak or the one on the valve stem is too strong - these are just my musings of course!!
Whilst I am messing with this thing does anyone have suggestions for other improvements I might consider for it?

If it hasn't already got one, the best upgrade is a steel breech kit, it eliminates any slack between barrel, breech and transfer port.
They usually have dovetails cut in so scope mounting becomes a lot more stable and straightforward.

Possibly an adapter to fit a sound moderator if where you shoot is noise sensitive 👍
Already has one, but I do not need to worry about noise. Breech kit sounds interesting. What should I do about the valve, the spring is very stiff, which I think is why it's not piercing the CO2 cartridge? Might get a hammer spring and guide.
Do I really want to spend £100 on this?

They can be money pits, I don't have much experience with regard to the valve set-up but a stronger hammer spring or weaker valve spring would be the way forward.
Maybe check that the valve stem moves freely first, if it's been modified (thinned) at some point it may have become slightly bent.
Check the valve has been assembled in the correct order 🤷. Sorry if that's stating the obvious.

Ok, I have ordered a new valve, a weaker valve spring and a spring guide for the hammer spring. All in about £25.
If this doesn't work, I am stumped

New bits arrived today and have been fitted. Still took a bit of time to break the seal on the cartridge though! eventually backed off the screw for the tap till I heard a little hiss!! I still have a leak as power is dropping every shot! I think it is probably the transfer port seal as I didn't change it as I thought the new one was too small, I probably need to attach it to the port before fitting, I think the problem is here as the barrel feels cold! I am correct in thinking the long end of the TP goes in the barrel?
