Cost of filling dive tank.

What compressors are you f9ks using (those that do?).
Cheapo Chinese job off of eBay, been using it every other week to fill my seven ltr bottle for about the last four months. Got two filters on the fill whip. With fills at £12 for 7ltr bottle, plus fuel at about £8 a trip to the Dive shop, plus the time, it's probably paid for itself already.

£10 to fill my 5ltr bottle at northern diver, was a fiver a few months ago but price gone up along with everything else

Do you have a link?

£6 per fill regardless of size at my local RFD. And yes I've seen their set up, more big filters than Ripspeed (you have to be a certain age and from the South East to get that one)

I worry about people using cheap compressors, it may do the job now, but that cylinder (either tank or gun) is eventually going to suffer the results of moisture.

My local RFD charges £1 per litre. £7 for my 7L even though he’s only topping it up, would charge more to fill from empty I think. It’s only 5 minutes down the road though so nice and handy.

Excuse my lack of knowledge of compressors here but can you fill a 12l bottle with the home compressor or only guns?

The cheaper compressors, Tuxing and clones eg, are only really designed to fill a gun direct. They WILL fill a bottle but will overheat rapidly so will take several sessions to fill one.
I occasionally top up my 3litre bottle but only if it’s above 220 bar and the ambient temperature is below 15C it otherwise it takes too long and I’m not sure it’s good for the compressor, it takes about half an hour.

Trying to get things in perspective, and really it’s about frequency of fills which is down to frequency of squeezing the trigger. I use my guns most 4 to 5 times a week ,hunting, practice at home, and the occasional range day. ( av 20 pellets / session)
my last bottle fill was Jan this year, 7ltr bottle = £7, that was 290 bar, in that time I have had 35 gun top ups ( average bottle size 200, going from 150 to 220 bar) Currently my bottle is running at 220 bar,
so, I reckon a 7ltr bottle will last me about 8 months ? Which is a less than £1/ month ( ignoring purchase price, testing, travel to fill etc)
can’t really justify a decent pump, would probs take over 10 years to pay for its self.

They don't make money filling tanks they make money selling dive kit!
They already have all of the kit required, and training on how to use it. Every time I have been in, there are staff stood or sat around doing nothing, and I have never seen another customer in there. Having said that, I am only there for 5 minutes, and the very minor wear and tear on the kit, and minuscule amount of electricity, probably means that my airgun tank fill is the most profitable bit of business they do in the day.

Luckily, my local dive shop are pleasant folks who are happy for any custom, and word of mouth at the range means they get plenty. A completely different attitude and approach. That is why I continue to use them.

Of course, if they would rather I firk off, I could buy a small compressor for less than £200 and get payback in less than 15 months, and the dozens or more folk from my club that use them likewise.

Just had my 12L filled last week at the dive shop. £10.00 for a healthy 300Bar fill. Any size cylinder....So I'm looking for a 15 litre monster. :p
That should do me do me until early next year.
