Compact scope recommendation?

Agreed, veyron are very good. But there are 2 compact scopes that I rate very highly. The first is the vector c3 cerrato and the T Eagle sr3 12×32 ffp ao ir. But the latter could be considered too compact on an ultra. I have both and they are great little scopes.

Thank you all very much for your advice....I'm a bit overwhelmed, but then again this is a wonderful place, populated with wonderful people.

One thing it looks like I should have mentioned perhaps is that my Ultra is the CLX, so t has the 'split' scope rail to accommodate the different magazine style I assume?

Will this make any difference to the options suggested?

I was aware of the weird 13mm scope rail, and was going to grab a set of BKL-257 mounts as I have used these in the past when I had an R10.....I was just waiting to see what scope I went with and its tube diameter before ordering.

Thank you all again (y)

A 13mm cantilever mount? Maybe a bkl one that split evenly in the middle? I was going to get an eagle vision to picatinny then that opens up more choices. Also adds to the price.

In the end I just mounted it on the kids mito carbine with 1 mount. It’s been perfect so I guess that’s another option too. View attachment 756484

Vs how it sits on an ultra with 2 mounts. View attachment 756486
Hi ,sorry for the late response
I fitted eaglevision 13mm to picatiny and the cantilever mounts put on 'backwards' to get proper eye relief.
I set my zoom to around 18? The reticule works fine for .
Again all personal choices
But it works for me 🤷‍♂️

Another vote for the Vector Veyron 3-12x44i but I'd strongly recommend the SFP version because the ret is quite fine - too fine for the low end magnification which you'll probably want at short range. Unless you are interested in BR there's not much point in going for a bigger magnification and you'd be looking at a longer model. I'm happy using 10x out to 50m.

Scopes with the same internals except for a longer focal length objective (to increase the mag) often don't perform as well optically at the higher end of the range. I cansay this is the case with Veyrons but I've compared several other medium-price scopes 3-12x vs 4-16x from the same ranges (Optisans, Nikkos and Hawkes) and each time the 12-16x part of the range shows visible degradation of image clarity.

Agree with the Cerrato I got one for my Mercury. I couldn't get it mounted properly so I did the obvious and bought a HW99 to put it on.
I just need a good sight for the Mercury now.

A while ago I purchased the first focal plane elltech scope from optics warehouse was cheaper than the Veyron but from what I can see pretty much the same believe it was the elltech ucs 6-24×44 looked quite good on my s400 carbine

Another vote for the Veyron. I have the FFP so I don't have to worry about having the scope on the correct mag for the holdover points (one less thing to think about), but as has been said the ret is very fine at lower mags. I probably prefer it to the Airmax which was twice the costShrug tt

I have several Veyrons and I remain very happy with all of them.

Would you consider the fixed mag 10x44 (model SCOM-41)? It has not been mentioned yet but is a great scope for the price.

I have a discovery scope (not compact) in ffp and it’s a great piece of glass for the money, in some ways it’s on par with some of my more expensive scopes. I have the Hawke compact in 40 and 50 sfp and like them alot. Just purchased an optisan cp 10x32 which is also a great little scope but I think the OP would struggle to pick those up second hand at his price point. I’d agree with some that the Cerrato C3 is a great little scope for the money, bought mine from optics warehouse for less than £80 delivered. A guy I shoot with rates the Veyrons too!

Slightly closer eye relief, but I've got a Hawke Airmax compact 4-16x44 SF on mine and absolutely bleddy love it. Reticle not too fussy, nice and clear and works well at relatively close ranges in my garden.

Doesn’t that just block out surrounding light rather than bring it closer?
It’s the only scope I have so can’t really complain. I’m new to the scope scene, I never had a scope on my airsporter or meteor (50 odd years ago )
