BSA always promote the use of there cold hammer forged barrel in there sales blurb, but are they any better than other widely used barrels ?

Yes they can be good, but no more so than my AA guns or HW,s for example.

I rate BSA choked cold hammer forged barrels, I have 5, 4 .22 and 1 .177, but no I don't rate them over AA or HW, equal to at best.

The two most accurate barrels I've personally owned is the HW 500mm barrel on a springer and the Air Arms (CZ) .177 S200 barrel.

I don't blame BSA for making a big deal about it wether it's completely realistic or not.
Reputation takes some building
Without it's reputation where do they fit into the whole BRS owned group of companies?
At least they are still made here in the uk. And hopefully will continue to be for many years to come.

They are only as good as the steel quality and the mandril used , if its worn the barrel won't be even through the bore and be in a nutshell average at best .

Given the choice, I's sooner have a cut rifled barrel - hand lapped after the initial process... A button rifled barrel as a second choice. A buttoned barrel & hammer forged will both need proper stress relieving after the fact...

Can’t knock my 2 bsa barrels at all but I know hands down that overall Weihrauch are a league above, alas the days of a nicely blued barrel are slowly becoming a thing of times gone by with many a manufacturer opting for a blacked barrel these days..

Not a comment about accuracy but an observation of quality.. 🤪

I was talking to @Hmangphill about this the other day. Has anyone on here seen an ECR Electro Chemical Rifling barrel?

It's not a new process. I remember reading about this method years ago being used for making removeable rifled chokes for shotguns over the pond. Probably easier to rifle big bore and shotgun barrels for slugs using this method. :)

Rifle barrel manufacture definitely a black art to me and most people, the progress made with alloys of iron would suggest the older processes losing their ground, interesting to know how Germany's H&K with their high reputation in the military make barrels.
