Asked the office for no.1 club pistol last night a classic Feb 65 side lever I remembered from 15 years ago...many dusty boxes later being dragged out from under the desk and they did not find it but did turn up a nice hw75 so took that to the 10m range as first time I have used one. Much fun even if the trigger was set too creepy for serious target stuff. Then swapped it for a club Steyr lp50 ...5 shot...wowsers they are sweet! Also found the old club 5 shot aerons again from way back...5 shot but finicky ....wonder if we should sell them on now. Keen to put an optic on the hw75 and take it outside at some knock downs don't think anyone will mind....but won't get a away with that on an lp50!

There's definitely a market for the older pistols on here, but you'd have to be very clear about condition (mechanical and cosmetic)

So - I got to do an inventory today :-)
- 8 Aerons mix single / 5 shot (2 are Junior Spiders, at least 2 jammed) )
- 4 Steyrs mostly 5 shot - dreamy !
- 3 Hammerlis - HPA or Bulk C02 - no opinion
- 3 FWB HPA/ Bulk c02 - i know nothing...
- 5 FWB - sidelever springers- sliding sledge I love these (two need repair)
- 1 Mornini (thought they made motorbikes)
Then into the more random stuff
- Hw75 (yum)
- Umarex Glock 17 (hmm)
- Gamo Compact (nice ) and a PR15 (leaking - shame)
- A crossman 1008 - 8 shot plastic revolver - i discounted in until a member pointed out its super light for a junior to shoot
- 2 x Webley Mk V1s - lovely BUT they are 6mm BB versions - argh and we cant shoot them unless we set up card targets outside

I am making a number of recommendations like ditch bulk fill Co2 now and maybe get some 'entry level / guest day' 12 gm co pistols like a CP1 - what else would you suggest for entry single shot match type - bomb proof and idiot proof and perhaps with smaller hands? HW40 ?? Mitos? Also i am saying get the SSPs and FWB springers repaired and out for shooting as they are great

Wow, that is quite a barn find. Out of curiosity which club is this?

I personally wouldn't use a Mito for competitions, the gun is accurate but the trigger is mushy. You want something with a proper trigger and ergonomic grip. Which Morini do you have? Those are usually very good.

www.hprpc.co.uk SW London /Surrey yes we are lucky with facilities and equipment and very supportive active committee.

Sorry didn't take notice or pic of the morning.

Thanks re. Mito good call as we need entry level to match shooting...so on a guest day or even new probys will only ever do it once or few times and those that take it up get their own kit but it's the starting point on a pathway

Ahh, I've been tempted to come to a guest day but I'm in South East London so the journey would be a bit of a commute to visit regularly.

Don't mean to hijack the thread but I'd actually been thinking about reaching out to HPRPC as I noticed you do 25m rapid fire air pistol (which explains all the 5 shot Steyrs) and I was keen to replicate at my club. Can I ask what target set up do you use, do you have turning targets? Are they outside or inside?

Yes turning targets indoors on the 25m ...I think it's like 5 shots one per target and something like 10, 5 then 3 secs...so you really have to swing and squeeze . Yes the Aeron 5 shots were for that and now the steyrs ..but the only time I shot it I used my SW 586 🙃. Guest days are great but rightly regimented so you get just a taster of each discipline and the only way a non member can shoot at the club so well worth a.day out at least.

Personally I would keep the bulk fill CO2 as they are simple to run, plus way better quality and accuracy and will long outlast any CP1.

But we have hpa bottles literally sat in the range ..we could do lower end Pcp target pistols. Club guns need to be idiot proof pick up load and shoot ideally and having been through the bulk fill pistol boxes they have got notes about needed to cook the cylinders in a freezer before filling and look more complicated that a chemistry set 😱 ???

Nothing wrong with the HW75, rested of course.

All you need is an out of date co2 cylinder and the adapter, you can chill the cylinders to get max fill but unchilled you will still get approx 150 shots per fill depending on size of cylinder and fill weight. The advantage of not chilling is you will never get the cylinders over weight (to much liquid co2). Photos or model with the bulk fill co2 and I can help with what you’ve got. All will be excellent robust 10/25m pistols, they were well made and usually other than seals not much else goes wrong.
Check out my Only Pistols YouTube channel, I have done reviews on pretty much all the FWB CO2 pistols and the earlier Hammerli’s.

Nice do you think it has the power to knock down field targets and spinners out to say 25 yards? I see no point keeping it for just 10m indoors
Sorry I haven’t a clue, in the years I’ve owned it I’ve never shot it beyond 6yds but the question has got me thinking, guess I’ll be giving it a go on my next range visit

Once they are filled the bulk fill guns operate no differently to any other pre-charged pistol - i.e. cock them, insert pellet, aim and fire.

I would imagine as club guns a responsible club officer would be in charge of preparing the guns for a member to use, so thet should be in charge of filling guns.

In terms of 'complicated' that is looks nothing more, a pre-charged airgun also looks complicated if you have never handled one previously.

@Sgibbar has explained the process very succinctly in post number 16 above, chilling cylinders as he points out only means you get a maximum fill, but with the risk of over-filling. Just filling a cylinder at room temperature gives a pretty large number of shots.

I have a bulk fill Feinwerkbau C25 which gives well over 100 good shots from a room temperature fill of its cylinders, there are two with my pistol so ample shots for most requirements:

Keep in mind as a single stroke pneumatic it is not a power house, so it might be pushing it a bit on reactive targets at 25 yards, but at shorter distances it should certainly do OK though.

That's an awful lot of pistols for a club inventory

I can understand the worry about the older CO2 target pistols and the Aerons
They're possibly the best ones to part with, for the club

But personally, I can't see the point in replacing with cheap Chinese units
I'd increase the numbers of Compacts if you really think you need more pistols
