Test purchases were made, DNA profiling carried out, and 3 in 10 were found to be Catfish, in its raw state its easily confused with Cod,its mainly from South East Asia, so it can be flown by Jet and still be cheaper than Cod, Mitch21

Hello, Yes i read that Mitch, I have eaten smaller catfish off the B B Q in Thailand and it was very tasty, But to scam customers saying it is Cod sounds very naughty

Yes, there is very little actual cod served these days in chip shops, I saw a report that certain species of shark are also served a lot being called cod.

There are a number of fish species which make for perfectly good eating but which are so plug ugly that they're off-putting.
In the days when every town had a proper fishmongers shop they would display whole fish, but the ugly ones would be filleted and sold as "rock salmon" or some other non-existent species because no-one would have bought them otherwise.

Love 'rock salmon' always preferred it to cod. The other real treat is battered cods roe

As a kid on holiday 'Rock Salmon' was a favourite from the seaside chippy. Dogfish, I believe.

when i was somewhat younger we could not afford cod & chips and a place was more than a steak. We had Rock Salmon. Now i'm told its called cat fish. Matters not now but was great back then.

You can tell those establishments easily. They have a massive extension out the back just to house one of them
