Catapult / slingshot advice

Ordered the wasp Enzo. Quite excited now😂
You won't go wrong with that. I've got a couple of wasps and the quality is excellent.

For bands though I've never found better than Lone and Grey, they are the best quality if you want pre-made bands. You will need 1 band every 200 shots so get a few packs to see you through the learning curve.

I'm planning on using pre made bands for now. But I do intend to make my own at some point. Thanks

+1 for the Wasp

Excellent. Looks like a healthy forum. Thanks

I had one of the Black Widow type sling shots when I was in my early teens, thought it was the dogs danglies.

Roll on 40 years and I built myself a through the forks slingshot to take flat bands.

I still had the Black Widow so I dug it out, fitted new tubes and did a comparison against the new one with flat bands.

It was like comparing a Gat gun to a decent sub 12 rifle. The Black Widow was complete pants and after all those years I couldnt see the point of keeping it even - so it went in the bin. The difference was huge.

So my advice - get something that uses flat bands.

Just another point, bands are heat/cold sensitive. They are brilliant in summer temperature.. But come winter 🥶 they are not so good. Manufacturer claims of winter good is a bit far fetched I think.

The different type of bands and stretch ratios is vast.. 6.1 ect.. So as the cold approaches take into account when testing.

I do a bit of catapult ing if that's a word ,quit enjoyable and rewarding when I hit things ,,that I am aming at ,,but my arthritis in fingers and thumb don't like it. ,a bit like recurve bows ,I can pull the poundage but finger release gets painfull after a while ,steel balls or mud clay balls are best. ,pebbles stones and steel nuts aren't very arodynamic and go all over the place like cheap under size pellets ,try a few 4.5bbs wrapped up in tissue, for that shot gun effect ,be very carefull shooting the little darts ,you defo need a glove ,like a fish scale type with them

Bright 6mm might do well too, they'd be great for practice as they should be easier to see the trajectory of.

I didn't take arthritis into account actually. I've noticed my wrists and fingers are considerably worse this year on the motorbike. I'll just have to see how I get on.

I find it's the griping of the pouch that gets me ,after a while I have to stop ,do something else then come back to it ,I can shoot compound bows all day with a wrist release aid ,but finger release on a recurve gets me the same ,do a while then stop ,

Light ammo- light bands.. 6mm bb.. 0.45 bands.. Still good fun. Destroy cans at 20meters..
I use a wrist wrap mainly as I shoot hundreds per day.. But have wrist issue too. Being a sparky for years doing up screws ect nonstop knackered it..

Bit like archery ,start with a low poundage and work upwards ,see how you get on ,then come down a bit on poundage for a comfortable pull

Smaller ammo it is then. That's fine, I just want something I can have fun with and improve on.

Make sure you use appropriate size pouch to ammo and bands other wise it will be like using a parachute. Light and thin.. Wasps have what you need.. 👍

If you find your fingers and thumb are painful you can get a hand held catapult release aid ,no body seems to use them though, bit like a slingshot rifle release but hand held

When I think of a slingshot this is what comes to mind!.

You can get cold weather bands, catty shack sell them.

@Rob Taylor
Often find second hand Gamekeeper or Suffolk sling shot catapults on offer picked them up on here before

Flat bands are easily made up to suit your drawer length
With the aid of a home made jig

as is making your own lead ammo recycling shot pellets 👍

Knock up a decent target box for practicing jobs a good ‘n’ keeps the eye in 😂
